Job Summary

The Director of Community Engagement is responsible for facilitating community outreach by identifying possible organization and business relationships and finding opportunities to enhance the University of Texas Tyler’s continuing business and community engagements in East Texas. The Director will work with the UT Tyler community to cultivate value-added reciprocal partnerships to advance the institutional mission as well as build the necessary internal infrastructure to support the collection of community engagement data. This position coordinates closely with the Executive Director of Community Partnerships & Special Events, the Director will support the strategic objective of strengthening the UT Tyler brand through programs, events, and building community partnerships throughout East Texas.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Actively solicits and serves as a point of contact for community outreach initiatives/opportunities.
  • Works with campus community to facilitate reciprocal partnerships between the University and for-profit, nonprofit, and civic organizations in the region.
  • Create and facilitate annual activities related to Senior Adult Growth & Enrichment (SAGE) programs, including the creation and/or expansion of reciprocal partnerships focusing on Senior adults.
  • Develops, in collaboration with the appropriate university departments, community engagement programs consistent with the mission of The University of Texas at Tyler.
  • Serves as database manager of the data collection tool for campus-wide community engagement projects and annual data collection of community engagement data from faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
  • Creates educational opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders to gather community engagement data and create buy-in.
  • Facilitates annual opportunities for faculty and staff to participate in community service projects.
  • Assures that the university Is properly represented at civic, community, business, and other relevant events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be accepted.


Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience in community outreach or related field.


Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Desire to work on campus and in the community.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
