The Opportunity 

We are seeking a Synthetic Organic Chemist to be a collaborative team member in the design and synthesis of small molecules for early-stage biological evaluation. Successful candidates will be passionate about synthetic chemistry, excited to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment, and comfortable in the multidisciplinary environment of organic synthesis.

About Us

Our team is dedicated to the development of a broad pipeline of small molecules powered by unique chemistry insights to address a wide range of high unmet clinical needs. Our company was created within 5AM Ventures' 4:59 Initiative in 2023. We are based in the vibrant Seaport district.

Your Role

• Plan and execute synthetic chemistry experiments utilizing a variety of analytical techniques including NMR, UV/Vis, and Mass Spectrometry.
• Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize synthetic routes, especially divergent and/or modular approaches for rapid generation of lead candidates.
• Purify complex final compounds using a range of techniques including both normal and reverse phase chromatography.
• Contribute to the analysis, interpretation, and communication of scientific data, including communication at weekly team meetings.
• Documentation of all synthetic procedures and protocols in an electronic laboratory notebook
• Deepen your knowledge of science, of current and future potential applications, and conduct diligence to understand the evolving landscape of topics such as complex metal-catalyzed cross-coupling methods and organic electro/photochemistry.
• Comply with EH&S requirements and promote safety in the work environment.
• Responsible for the procurement of laboratory consumables and the management of chemical inventory.

• M.S. or Ph.D. with a focus on synthetic organic chemistry or a related field
• You are an experienced scientist with a Masters degree plus a minimum of 4 years of lab experience in an industry setting or a PhD with a minimum of 1 year lab experience in an industry setting
• You have an excellent command of the basics of all aspects of synthetic organic chemistry.

• You have in-depth knowledge of purification and analytical procedures.
• You have experience performing organic synthesis in a research environment, and a talent for experimental design.
• You are a great teammate who is excited about working within a small team to solve complex problems.
• Published author with track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
• There is no job too big or too small; you have a resourceful “roll up your sleeves” approach to your work; you prioritize team success; and you set a high standard for yourself and others.
• You have the ability to work full-time on site in our Seaport Boston-based lab
• You have unrestricted work authorization in the United States
