Bristol-Myers Squibb’s newest R&ED site located in Cambridge is in the heart of a vibrant ecosystem of world-class science, innovation, and business opportunities. Our research in Cambridge focuses on novel targets and pathways for tumors in oncology that are resistant to current therapies, as well as innovative discovery and translational medicine platforms to address unmet medical need in cardiovascular disease, immunoscience, immunology, neuroscience and fibrosis. We will continue to foster patient outreach and local external collaborations with biopharma, biotech, and academic partners in our pursuit to help patients prevail over serious diseases.

In the role as a Research Operations Manager, within Strategy and Operations team, the ideal candidate:

Site wide responsibilities

  • Coordinates infrastructure and space optimization projects as well as new lab build outs, new instrumentation installation and training
  • Serves as the site’s point-of-contact for business and laboratory operations, and advising site scientific staff on business and laboratory operations
  • Partners with all support functions to provide creative yet durable solutions to challenges faced by the scientific community at Cambridge Crossing
  • Provides support with established site-wide programs such as Vendor Managed Inventory, Cells profiling and testing, Lab Equipment Management, among others to ensure scientific needs are met
  • Thinks critically to proactively resolve unique issues related to a shared work environment and maintaining an environment of collaboration and creativity

Thematic Research Center centric responsibilities

  • Oversees laboratory asset management program, optimizing site-wide laboratory equipment usage and scientific workflows
  • Provides laboratory operations overviews during the onboarding of new personnel
  • Develops schedules and guidelines for shared equipment
  • Supports with day-to-day operations and challenges
  • Partners with EHS to identify risks and ensure work environment is safe for all lab associates
  • Manages cold storage assignment to maximize space utilization and mitigate risk
  • Supports with bench assignment and space planning to accommodate for new employees and relocations
  • Partners with Unity Lab Services to coordinate and prioritize lab equipment repairs
  • Partners with Business Lead to take an active involvement on capital equipment lifecycle
  • Oversees TC rooms and specialty rooms and provide operational support as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 5 years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Master’s Degree
    • 3 years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
    • No experience necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate (BA/BS) degree required, preferably in STEM; advanced degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the life sciences or biopharmaceutical industry
  • Scientific experience in Research and Development preferred
  • Business operations experience required; biopharma R&D laboratory operations experience preferred
  • Demonstrated strength in assessing business critical needs, defining clear and measurable business outcomes, translating strategy into operational plans, delivering projects on time / on budget, and delivering outcomes with efficiency
  • Capable of bringing structure to vaguely defined problems while using creative yet pragmatic problem-solving approaches and execution management
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to build relationships and influence, and drive organizational engagement
  • Strong collaborator that can work well in matrixed teams and foster diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and operational expertise
  • Strong ability to ensure connectivity across multiple functions within the site and across the enterprise
