SUMMARY:
Provides support services for the Water Analysis Section of the Public Health Laboratories by assisting with the preparation of supplies, cleaning glassware and non-disposable supplies, performing simple laboratory analyses, and assisting with routine clerical tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares sample containers for delivery and receipt; sorts, unpacks and distributes incoming sample containers to be analyzed.
Clean laboratory glassware and non-disposable items according to laboratory policies and procedures.
Assists in sample preparation and performs simple laboratory analyses.
Performs other duties as needed for the Water Analysis Laboratory Section and the Public Health Laboratories in general.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience: No experience required.
License/Certification: None required.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Ability to learn routine non-technical laboratory duties including the use of autoclaves, sterilizers, centrifuges and other laboratory equipment. Ability to clean and sterilize glassware and other fragile laboratory apparatus. Ability to keep simple records. Ability to perform calculations involving the application of basic mathematics. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Superior manual dexterity and coordination is required. Must be willing and able to handle unpleasant and or hazardous specimens, and other samples known to contain infectious organisms and toxic chemicals such as carcinogens. Must be willing to receive Hepatitis B vaccine.
