Lenoir–Rhyne University is Hiring a Computer Science Faculty Near Hickory, NC

Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics seeks applications for a one-year, full-time, non-tenure-track faculty appointment with the possibility of extension for additional years. Appointment begins August 2024.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

This position is a nine-month teaching contract involving coursework for undergraduate students in the fall and spring semesters with the potential for summer teaching assignments at additional pay. A minimum of a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field is required but a terminal degree is preferred. Degree must be awarded prior to the start date of this position, August 19, 2024.

Teaching may include courses in information technology, computer networks, database management, and introduction to analytics, along with evaluating student success and achievement with timely student feedback within those courses. Evidence of exemplary college teaching experience, the ability to develop and deliver courses utilizing online and other non-traditional pedagogies is preferred.

Candidates must be able to conduct their assigned courses of instruction in the best manner possible to achieve student learning which include the presentation of ideas in ways which are appropriate to a variety of learning styles and that show sensitivity to a diverse student population. Successful candidates will display a commitment and capacity for teaching excellence, student mentorship, collaborative work, scholarly and professional engagement, and a dedication to strong institution-wide citizenship.

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics provides current and practical knowledge and skills that prepares students for a successful STEM career. The college offers eleven undergraduate degrees: biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science (including a cybersecurity track), engineering physics (system integration and automation and traditional focuses), environmental science and policy, information technology, mathematics, medical studies, pre-engineering, and pre-medical science. At the graduate level, the college offers an MS in Sustainability Studies.
