This is accomplished by reading and maintaining meters and performing repairs on meters. Other duties may include customer service, installing and disconnecting meters, and interfacing with City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.Reads meters by operating handheld reading devices, exposing buried meters, accurately reading and recording meter usage, manually closing meter lids and pumping water out of meters. Provides customer service by answering questions, explaining how to read meters, rereading meters if needed, notifying customers of leaks and connecting and disconnecting meters. Maintains meters by picking-up and completing work orders, changing out broken meters, monitoring meters for damage, preparing reports, communicating meter problems to the appropriate departments and inspecting meters for water leaks. Installs and disconnects meters by locating the correct address and stop locations, establishing meter locations, installing, reconnecting and disconnecting meters, handling customers and collecting payments. Provides direction to employees by assigning and monitoring work activities, providing assistance and guidance to other employees and ensuring quality control of work tasks.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Reading Basic - Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable words. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.Math Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.Writing Basic - Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.Managerial Receives general directions. The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. The employee may choose the appropriate procedure or policy. Performance is reviewed periodically.Supervisory / Organizational Control Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees.Complexity Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures.
