Position Title: Instructional Supervisor
Classification: RSAA
Range: 4 (High School); 5 (Elementary and Middle Schools)
Reports To: Building Principal and/or Associate Principal
Position Goal: Supervises the instructional program to ensure that the District curriculum is implemented with fidelity through highly-effective instructional practices that meet the needs of all students. Develops educator capacity to effectively meet the needs of all learners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
  • Collaborates with the Central Office and the Building Administration to ensure that the District curriculum is implemented with fidelity in all classrooms.
  • Ensures high levels of instructional quality for all learners by communicating, supporting and monitoring instructional expectations as set forth in the district's instructional framework.
  • Assists the building principal in ensuring that all mandated assessments are administered in accordance with the District's annual assessment plan.
  • Analyzes and uses assessment data to monitor and adjust instruction, professional development and grading practices at the school level.
  • Supervises, observes, evaluates and supports teachers in order to make practical suggestions for improving quality of instruction, to determine curriculum needs and to gather evidence of effectiveness of the District mandated programs
  • Develops and facilitates professional development activities related to curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Attends regularly scheduled meetings with the Central Office Teaching and Learning team in an effort to stay abreast of current educational trends, collaborate with colleagues and ensure that school-level practices are consistently aligned with the District's instructional vision.
  • Actively participates in district-level committees including, but not limited to: curriculum development/revision; textbook selection and adoption; professional learning communities; etc.
  • Provides guidance and monitors the effective use of educational technology in the classroom.
  • Assists in the leadership of the school improvement process, especially in the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Assists the school principal in the development and/or oversight of supplemental extended day and extended year programs as well as interventions and academic support programs offered during the school day.
  • Monitors and reports all Act 48 professional development activities.
  • Assists in student teacher/intern placement and observations at the building level.
  • Assists in the monitoring and use of building funds as they relate to curriculum, instruction, supplemental academic programs and professional development.
  • Assists in facilitation of schoolwide and district-wide committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises all professional and support staff as assigned by the building Principal.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Pennsylvania Instructional II Teaching Certificate; Pennsylvania PreK-12 Principal Certificate or related supervisory certification
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial reports, governmental regulations and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the public, staff, regulatory agencies, or members of the community
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and concerns from professional and support staff, public groups, governmental agencies and District Administration
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages
  • Ability to apply financial concepts

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

The employee is frequently required to interact with the parents, public, staff during and after the normal workday.
