Clearwater Paper is Hiring a Mill supervisor Near Augusta, GA

Where you will work :

The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard.

It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years.

Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.

Augusta, Georgia is a vibrant community along the Georgia / South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia.

What you will do :

The Shift Supervisor - Pulp will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties :

  • Supervises approximately 30 hourly employees.
  • Directs the day-to-day activities of the crew to include providing daily communication and resolving crew issues.
  • Reviews unacceptable performance relating to safety, quality, productivity and / or inappropriate behaviors to include disciplinary action if required with individual crew members.
  • Prepares and distributes end of shift report.
  • Performs daily audits to ensure that safety, housekeeping, basic care rounds, and established job standards are followed.
  • Serves as liaison to communicate identified problems to support team as well as problem status feedback to the crew.
  • Supports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity and continuous improvement.
  • Accounts for overall crew performance in accordance to established key performance indicators (KPI’s) to include safety, environmental, housekeeping, quality, cull and production efficiency.
  • Takes necessary actions to ensure goals are achieved in a team environment by leading or promoting problem solving and development of countermeasures with or by crew members.
  • Manages individual job assignments and crew member training plans with assistance from other department personnel.
  • Responsible for the daily management of the time / attendance system.
  • Facilitates effective communication and production planning between departments.
  • Responsible for improving crew engagement and conducting one-to-ones with direct reports.

What you will need :

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Paper or pulp mill experience preferred
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be able to work rotating shift schedule.
  • Willingness and ability to fully manage 24 / 7 operation directly and through direct reports.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must have good organizational and computer skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and energetic.
  • Ability to work within labor agreement if applicable.
  • High-speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high-frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces
  • Personal Protective Equipment is required in the mill environment.
  • Dirt, noise, odor, & temperature extremes.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing process
  • Able to work 6 : 30 AM - 6 : 30 PM shift

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience among other factors.
