The Computer Crimes Unit is a highly specialized unit. The Computer Forensic Analyst will work as part of a team both in the digital forensics laboratory and assist with operations in the field. This is professional services and scientific work in analyzing digital and computer evidence in connection with criminal investigations including child exploitation, child sexual abuse material, homicides, suspicious deaths and other egregious crimes against persons.

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Performing technical examinations of computer evidence
  • Prepares forensic case reports of evidentiary findings and provides expert opinion regarding forensic examinations and results in order to aid prosecutors in case preparation .
  • Conducts investigations to identify victims of all manner of criminal activity that are otherwise unidentified and depicted in images recovered during examinations within the unit as well as various other jurisdictions using contemporary forensic tools and processes along with investigative techniques.
  • Collaborating with and providing direction to law enforcement officers and other forensics experts in the processing of crime scenes
  • Testifying as an expert witness in court and administrative hearings
  • Preparing and presenting classroom and information presentations in computer forensics and public safety
  • Supervision may be exercised of professional and/or technical support personnel.

Minimum qualifications:

A four year combination of education, training, and/or experience demonstrating an in-depth and thorough understanding of computer systems, hardware, software, networking, related equipment and materials, criminal justice system and court procedures, and evidence collection and management.

Preference will be given to those applicants:

  • With knowledge and/or experience of law enforcement investigations and a familiarity with VPN's and digital forensic tools such as AXIOM, Cellebrite, X Ways FTK etc.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, court procedures, evidence collection and management.
  • Certification as a Computer Forensic Examiner or Mobile Forensic Examiner (or substantially similar certification) by a national recognized authority in the field of computer/mobile forensics is required prior to attaining permanent status in this classification (permanent status is attained by completing the necessary probationary period).
