Job Description

Job Description

Lockout/Tagout Manager Job Description:

LOTO manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of workers and preventing accidents during maintenance, repair, or servicing of equipment and machinery. LOTO procedures are used to isolate energy sources and prevent accidental startup or release of hazardous energy, such as electricity, steam, hydraulic pressure, or mechanical motion, which could pose a danger to workers.

Qualifications for Lockout/Tagout Technician:

  • 5 years of lockout/tagout experience in the electrical background, manufacturing background or maintenance background.

Procedure Development: Developing, reviewing, and updating LOTO procedures for various equipment and machinery. This involves understanding the energy sources, identifying isolation points, and creating step-by-step instructions for isolating and securing those energy sources.

Worksite Assessment: Conducting thorough assessments of equipment and machinery to determine energy sources, isolation points, and potential hazards. This involves collaborating with equipment operators, maintenance personnel, and engineers to gather accurate information.

Training and Education: Providing training and education to workers, equipment operators, and maintenance personnel on LOTO procedures, the importance of following them, and the potential risks associated with not adhering to the procedures.

Equipment Preparation: Assisting maintenance personnel in preparing equipment for servicing by ensuring energy sources are properly isolated, locked out, and tagged out. This can involve installing physical locks and tags on energy isolation points.

Lockout/Tagout Implementation: Physically applying locks and tags to energy isolation points according to established LOTO procedures. This prevents unauthorized personnel from re-energizing equipment while maintenance is ongoing.

Verification: Verifying that all energy sources have been properly isolated and secured before maintenance work begins. This includes confirming that equipment is in a safe state and cannot be inadvertently re-energized.

Supervision and Oversight: Monitoring maintenance activities to ensure that LOTO procedures are followed correctly and that safety measures are being maintained throughout the maintenance process.

Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergencies that may arise during maintenance, such as unexpected release of energy or other hazardous situations.

Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of LOTO procedures, equipment assessments, training sessions, and maintenance activities. This documentation is crucial for regulatory compliance and future reference.

Continuous Improvement: Identifying areas for improvement in LOTO procedures, training methods, and safety protocols to enhance overall workplace safety.

A Lockout/Tagout Technician requires a thorough understanding of equipment mechanics, energy sources, safety regulations (such as OSHA's Lockout/Tagout Standard), and effective communication skills to collaborate with various personnel across different departments. Safety is of utmost importance in this role, as any oversight can lead to serious injuries or fatalities.

Additional Requirements for LOTO Technician:

*Site Specific training (orientation, emergency action plan, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 30)

*NFPA70E certification or equivalent knowledge of electrical safety standards.

*Arc Flash awareness training
