About the Division:

The Electronic Services Division provides statewide public safety telecommunications, land mobile radio, microwave, and engineering services to the WSP, its partner agencies, and customers.

Duties

This position is responsible for maintaining the Washington State Patrol communication site radio towers, Microwave (MW) and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) antenna systems and perform minor site building preventative maintenance. This position will install and optimize LMR and MW antenna system(s) using the latest technology for microwave path alignment and provide 24-7 support to any tower/antenna related problems. This position will perform inspections of contractor work and verify installation compliance to WSP standards. Perform preventative maintenance of Hydrogen Fuel Cell power plants. This position interacts with other members of the tower crew, supervisors, Senior Telecommunication Specialist (STS), agency staff, and other state and federal government partner agencies. This position also directly supports the agency Continuity of Operations (COOP) functions.
Our new teammate will be able to:

  • Physical Inspection of guyed and self-supported communication tower structures.
  • Site & HVAC maintenance, minor maintenance on communication shelters, antennas/transmission lines, ancillary equipment and maintaining hydrogen fuel cell power plants.
  • Climbing to heights upwards of 340' performing tower inspections ensuring all tower fasteners are tight, antenna(s), pipe mounts, tie-backs and attaching hardware are in good working order.
  • Installation and optimization of LMR and MW antenna system(s) using latest technology for microwave path alignment.
  • Provides 24/7 support to any tower/antenna related problems.
  • Completion of tower inspection reports, antenna installation documentation, updating tower drawings, recording any damage, corrosion, and vandalism.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and understand tower drawings and antenna assembly instructions.
  • Ability to utilize laptop computer and enter data needed by the drafting department and use computer applications.
  • Adept understanding of antenna systems and their components, installation, repairs and their alignments.
  • Completion of Intermediate Riggers training within the first six months of employment
  • Completion of CPR/First Aid training within the first six months of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted Washington State driver's license
  • Possess the ability to operate general construction equipment, hand tools, power tools and climbing and safety equipment.
  • Must be able to complete a Competent Climber & Rescue training within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must be able to complete the Intermediate Riggers training within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must be current in CPR/First Aid training or be current within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must enroll in the RF Awareness training within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must be able to plan and support projects as a job leader and communicate updates to supervisor.
  • Ability and knowledge to work with hand tools.
