In order to meet the high standards and demand requirements for more than two dozen product categories, we seek smart, highly analytical, fast-thinking decision makers to maintain proper inventory levels at MSC’s network of distribution centers. We rely on supply planners to interpret data and then develop and implement purchasing plans and strategies accordingly. In this dynamic and fast-paced role you will be responsible for the movement of goods throughout the supply chain for your assigned product categories. HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE You will be empowered to make sound purchasing and business decisions.

  • Review and place purchase orders with assigned suppliers to manage appropriate inventory levels at MSC’s Customer Fulfillment Centers (CFCs).
  • Develop and implement plans for achieving inventory turns goals, and execute supplier strategies developed by Product Management.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and product managers to identify and reconcile gaps and supply shortages; devise an early warning system for issue identification; and expedite and formulate alternate solutions to resolve backorders in a timely manner.
  • Identify slow-moving inventory and initiate supplier returns, and work cross-functionally to devise ways to sell through the inventory.
  • Process receiving and inventory exceptions according to established time and process guidelines.
  • Assist product managers with developing strategies to purchase product at the lowest possible price.
  • Ensure product quality and timely delivery through frequent interaction with vendors and product managers.
  • Meet with merchandise and product managers to discuss and resolve supplier issues, and review product line performance relative to goal.
  • Review supplier performance and meet with them to address issues, negotiate improvement opportunities, and develop and implement action plans to address and correct service issues.
  • Work with demand planners to develop predefined scenarios for demand shaping, supply relocation, and capacity to balance and optimize supply and demand.
  • Coordinate, communicate, review and validate procurement and distribution plans (based on business rules, lead times, unconstrained forecasts, sales orders, safety stock requirements, etc.).
  • Review fulfillment tool reports, identify product database errors, and take appropriate action.

  • Exceptional organizational and planning abilities
  • Basic negotiation, follow-up, and facilitation skills
  • Keen ability to analyze and distill data
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Associate’s degree in business or equivalent experience
  • Basic knowledge of descriptive statistics, forecasting, or demand planning preferred
  • APICs Certified in Production and Inventory Management preferred

Compensation starting at $54390 – $77700 / year and up dependent on candidate location and experience.
