Collin College is Hiring a Foreperson Near Allen, TX

Primary Location

We are searching for candidates that meet the required qualifications and experience and are able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Job Summary

Serve as the first-line supervisory, overseeing the daily work activities to ensure proper implementation of the college district's landscape maintenance operations.

Required Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily upkeep, manufacturers recommended preventive maintenance, minor repairs and operation of equipment and recommend major repairs.
  • Supervise and train temporary full- and part-time workers. Prioritize daily tasks according to the competency level of temporaries, and coordinate tools and supplies for those tasks.
  • Record daily entries of temporary workers time cards, sign for verification of same. Inform the grounds manager / assistant grounds manager of temporary personnel needs.
  • Ensure employee competency in trimming, pruning, spraying, bed cultivation, seasonal flower rotations, trimming of extended uncultivated areas.

Advise the assistant grounds manager of training needs based upon work schedule.

  • Monitor and oversee the maintenance of irrigation systems at all campuses.
  • Maintain inventory records, requests for parts, equipment, rentals, and services. On a regular basis, inform grounds manager / assistant manager of equipment status and needs.
  • Direct and assist in daily custodial of parking lots, including campus pavement and grounds areas.
  • Perform pesticide applications under supervision.
  • Work varied hours and overtime as needed.

Supplemental Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties and maintains all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures and Core Values.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of landscape irrigation systems, including maintenance, repair, and minor installation
  • Working knowledge of turf and landscape maintenance, including grass types, various plant materials, and species growth habits
  • Knowledge of small engine repair, for maintenance of various power equipment, such as mowers
  • Some knowledge of insects, diseases, and weed identification
  • Some knowledge of pesticides and their correct usage
  • Knowledge of departmental safety guidelines, and correct safety procedures
  • Knowledge of other departmental guidelines and college policies
  • Knowledge in the application and performance of irrigation parts, such as valves, controllers, heads, nozzles, and piping
  • Knowledge of minor purchasing procedures
  • Knowledge of various landscape water requirements
  • Knowledge of all equipment, parts, tools, and other supplies needed for every aspect of grounds maintenance
  • Working operational knowledge of each piece of equipment
  • Know proper handling, usage, and disposal techniques of all pesticides and other hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding pesticides
  • Organizational skills
  • Skill in training workers in proper landscape maintenance techniques, observing work habits and correcting any deficiencies in performance
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Skill in irrigation repair techniques and procedures
  • Ability to follow directives from the college district's grounds manager and assistant grounds manager.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects at the same time, and complete them within a given time frame
  • Ability to follow directives from the Grounds Supervisor
  • Ability to convey specific information to workers, and delegate tasks
  • Ability to observe cultural problems that can occur due to improper maintenance techniques and correct them
  • Ability to identify problems with irrigation systems on all campuses, including leaks, controllers, electrical, and valve issues
  • Ability to operate all equipment, large or small, gasoline or diesel (tractor and implements)
  • Ability to understand various functions of all equipment and their parts, and trouble-shoot problems

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Heavy Work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, plus pushing, pulling and lifting.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and / or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.

Frequent physical effort required.

Hiring Minimum $47,300.00 Hiring Maximum $56,760.00

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalency certificate (GED).

Four (4) years of landscape maintenance experience, and two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Preferred

Some college level or formal education.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Texas Driver's License required.*

Individuals hired for this position may be required to drive a company vehicle. A Motor Vehicle (MVR) Report will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually / bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College.

Equivalency Language

In addition to minimum education required : A higher level degree than what is required for the job may be substituted for no more than one (1) year of the required work experience
