Job Summary: The Director of Manufacturing Engineering leads the advancement and implementation of new manufacturing processes and technologies within the Company, and the continuous improvement of existing processes and methods. This manager receives broad direction from the Executive Management Team. The Director of Manufacturing Engineering is directly responsible for ensuring that the Company’s future technology and manufacturing capabilities will meet the needs of the marketplace going forward. The Director will be responsible for ensuring Maintenance and Facilities teams are adequately staffed, informed, and organized to support both tactical and strategic company requirements. The Director of Manufacturing Engineering will work proactively to identify process deficiencies, generate proposals for process improvements, and drive the institution of continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • Leads, mentors, and manages Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Maintenance & Facilities departments.
  • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Oversees and drives improvements of manufacturing productivity and safety by analyzing, planning, and streamlining workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Leads annual planning and budgeting initiatives for capital expenditures and oversees the negotiation of price, lead time, and implementation of capital investments.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Identifies waste in production processes and develops workable solutions to reduce downtime, scrap, excess WIP, defects, and excessive movement.
  • Champions continuous improvement efforts throughout manufacturing process.
  • Collaborates with product development and design teams on new products to determine space, equipment, technology, and environmental requirements/considerations for manufacturing.
  • Drives development of the manufacturing/process engineering technical expertise and talent to support the organization's goals.
  • Proactively identifies cost-savings in the design, manufacturing, assembly, and handling of products and associated processes.
  • Identifies and facilitates short-term stopgap solutions to address conditional process deficiencies and creates/implements long-term permanent solutions.
  • Attends regular meetings with Executive Management to present status updates on current and future projects and to propose future opportunities for improvements.
  • Supports IEA’s process improvement initiatives, Lean and Six Sigma programs.
  • Ensures that all direct and indirect employees are aware of and follow safety work practices at all times.

Physical Demands:

  • Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 50 (seldom).

  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, or sitting; infrequent kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting upper body, or climbing.
  • Working at heights off the ground up to: 25 (seldom).
  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.
  • Travel: Domestic and international travel—<5%

Work Environment:

  • Work location(s): Office; metal fabrication/assembly shop; field visits to customer/rep locations including domestic/international travel.
  • Limited Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment, inclement weather conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses and Safety Toe Shoes when in shop areas. Additional equipment as per job site.

Position Requirements:

  • Key skills, abilities and knowledge:
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy manufacturing, assembly, and design.
  • Extensive knowledge of project management.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
  • Experience with Capital planning, ROI generation, contract negotiations, and supplier relations.
  • Experience with evaluation, selection, and integration of automated equipment.
  • Six Sigma, DMAIC, Root Cause, Lean Manufacturing or equivalent process improvement knowledge and implementation.
  • Experience with ISO programs and Vendor Quality
  • Knowledge of electrical standards, PLC’s, controllers, etc.
  • Strong user of ERP systems (Syteline), PM software, CAD, Solid works, MS Office programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple manufacturing engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to direct and lead subordinates as assigned and others safely and efficiently.
  • Supervision of Maintenance and Facilities teams.
  • Ability to conduct research (problem identification, data collection and analysis, solution formulation, testing and evaluation).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships (in person/phone/e-mail).
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
  • Experiential: Ten or more years of manufacturing engineering experience. Experience in radiator manufacturing and/or heat transfer product applications is highly desirable. Experience in Industrial Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Design, Budgeting, Aluminum Brazing, Roll Forming, Mig/Tig, sheet metal blanking and forming, wet coat painting, fleet vehicle management, commercial contract negotiations, Metal Fabrication, tool and die, and SPC is highly desirable.
  • Educational: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field. Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • Certificates, Licenses, etc.: Driver’s license; passport (for foreign travel as necessary).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
