Duties
  • Operate and transport several different types of heavy equipment on uneven, rough terrains and on steep grades.
  • Utilize equipment to recondition terrain, roadways, and constructions sites.
  • Collaborate with a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform onsite maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Safely operate and inspect heavy equipment on a routine basis.
  • Maintain and operate various specialized gates and valves to regulate water as a backup operator at a high hazard dam facility.
  • Ability to maneuver heavy equipment close in proximity to buildings, uneven terrains, landscaping, and other obstructions.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of application and is a condition of employment. Failure to maintain a Class A CDL will result in the termination of appointment.
You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing.
QualificationsYour application materials must demonstrate sufficient experience and training to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Qualifications will be determined on the basis of information submitted within your resume and responses to the assessment questions. Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. Failure to provide proof of such license will cause you to be rated ineligible for this position.
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 06/17/2024.
Education
This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

You may be required to serve an initial probationary period. Current, permanent Federal employees who are selected from this announcement may be required to serve a probationary period.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are authorized with the exception of the Guaranteed Home Sale Provision or first-post-of-duty relocation expenses are authorized, as applicable. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), signed into law December 2017, suspends the moving expense deduction and the exclusion from income of qualified employer reimbursements of moving expenses that was allowed under previous tax laws. Employer reimbursements for moving costs are now generally taxed at the same rate as ordinary income.
Related non-Federal experience or related experience as retired members of the uniformed services may be credited towards computing entitlement to leave accrual, at managerial discretion, providing that experience meets certain criteria. How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement.
