DEFINITION STATEMENT
Under the direct supervision of the Finance Director, this position is responsible for set up and maintenance of accounts, licensing, collection and recording of multiple types of payments to the city. Must have working understanding of city policies and ordinances, in addition to the ability to communicate effectively with the public and other city and state organizations, while maintaining accurate files. Also assigned other related accounting duties at discretion of the Director.
DUTIES – EXAMPLES OF WORK
· Retrieve mail and accurately post daily revenues from individuals, other city departments, and federal and state agencies in AS400 system.
· Provides effective and courteous service in person and by phone in response to inquiries from property owners and general public.
· Set up of new occupational licenses and monthly processing of renewals, while working with the Community Development Department for request for licenses.
· Assist with cycle utility billing; including collection of fees, late penalty and working with residences, according to policies, to resolve any items.
· Establishes files and creates Excel forms to maintain records necessary for accurate reporting and tracking of revenues from county, state and license collection.
· A working understanding of city ordinances related to the positions tasks; recommends appropriate changes and amendments to the Finance Director.
· Works closely with other departments regarding daily activity reporting and licensing requirements.
· Generates correspondence and forms needed using Word, Excel and Outlook.
· Establishes point of contact for each type of revenue source and can communicate details needed for correct posting of the revenue.
· Performs other duties as assigned, including special project coordination.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Knowledge of current office practices and procedures; Microsoft Suite. Knowledge of AS400 and basic accounting principles is helpful. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials and the public. Must have high school diploma or equivalent plus minimum of one year experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license. Applicants must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
