To learn more, visit www.LAalliance.org. ROLE SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Principal and/or school Athletic Director, coach students in a specific sport during the established season. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Coach and instruct students in a sport, instruct students in the proper use of equipment and rules of the specific sport Supervise students in the locker room, during practices, during athletic competitions, and on buses to and from athletic competitions Maintain proper inventory and care of equipment and facilities Assess student performance and make coaching decisions without regard to outside teen/youth affiliations. (For coaches who coach both at a school and for a private or community club/team) THE STRONGEST CANDIDATE WILL Believe. Expertise. Have strong academic content expertise, instructional and classroom culture skills, and in-depth knowledge of effective evaluation and assessment techniques to drive scholarly learning. Have strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with both children and adults. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education H.S. Diploma Experience Related experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and ability to prevent injuries Ability to teach and motivate middle school-aged students Skills of the sport Strategies and concepts in the sport Rules of the sport Policies of the school district that apply to athletics and student behavior Exhibit positive leadership skills, good sportsmanship, and personal and professional integrity Maintain good communication with the school administrators, other staff, and parents Demonstrate good rapport with the coaches and staff of other schools and athletic officials Organize, plan, and execute practices and game schedules promptly Experience in teaching and coaching the sport Typical Physical Demands Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, stretching some jumping. Typical Mental Demands Ability to give, receive, and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials, and articulate goals and action plans. Working Conditions Employees in this position will be required to: Work indoors in the locker room, gymnasium, field, court, or track Work outside of normal workdays and office hours to meet installation deadlines Come in direct contact with Alliance staff, students, parents, and the public BENEFITS Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plan options are covered at 100% of monthly premiums for individual employees and at least $1,000 per month towards medical family plan premiums. Retirement: School staff, depending on role, may participate in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) or California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). Paid Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees accrue vacation at a rate of 10 hours/month, for a maximum of 180 hours in addition to 10 national holidays as well as a week for Spring Break and a week for Winter Break. Regular full-time 11-month employees receive five weeks of paid leave as part of the academic calendar, plus sick leave that accrues at one day per month. Professional Development: At Alliance, we believe in supporting staff growth and provide substantial school-based and network-wide professional development support to staff. Recognition: Provide special recognition to staff who demonstrate their dedication inside and beyond the school.
