Summary:The Facilities Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of semi-skilled manual labor activities and duties related to the maintenance and repair of the Lawrence Municipal Airport, facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities:Duties include to operate maintenance equipment and vehicles in support of a variety of activities including comprehensive facility and mechanical system maintenance; and to perform other maintenance related duties as assigned. This position is responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of assigned buildings and surrounding grounds including parking and landscape areas.

• Maintain and repair city facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, welding, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work.
• Operate, maintain and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment required for carpentry, plumbing and maintenance skills.
• Coordinate and review the work activities, projects and programs associated with building and facility maintenance; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; meet with contractors to identify and resolve problems.
• Identify equipment needs for each assigned project; transport and deliver equipment from sites; maintain equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles as required.
• Maintain records and logs of all work performed.
• Wear all applicable safety equipment and clothing as required by department.
• Work within the assigned budget and purchasing policies when procuring parts, supplies, and services.
• Driving requirement: must be able to maintain current drivers’ license and insurability. CDL preferred.

Qualifications:Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at level necessary for successful job performance. Specialized training in construction management, skilled trades, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical maintenance, automated security and telephone systems or a related area preferred. Two years of increasingly responsible building and grounds maintenance experience required, four years preferred. Prefer experience in computer operated environmental systems. Must have a valid driver’s license. The successful candidate must pass the background check, City physical and drug screen. CDL, Commercial Applicator's license, familiarity with operating a tractor and brush mower preferred. 

Physical Requirements:Climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, in tight spaces and at heights. Lifting up to 100 lbs. with or without assistance.
