Aiken County Public School District is Hiring a Payroll Associate (8 hours/260 days) Near Aiken, SC

Position Title: Payroll Associate
Department: Business Services
Reports To: Payroll Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
Works with limited supervision while processing semi-monthly payroll for an assigned group of school district employees and maintains accurate, up-to-date files of all payroll information while utilizing data from the HRIS/Accounting/Time and Attendance systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Processes, updates, and calculates payroll data for employee status changes (such as new hires, rehires, changes/transfers, leave of absence/return to work, terminations, taxes, employee deductions, etc.).
  • Is attentive to detail and enters data with consistent accuracy while working under pressure and stringent deadlines.
  • Reviews, audits and balances payroll data and ensures that district policies and procedures as well as Federal/State labor regulations are followed.
  • Prepares reports summarizing payroll earnings, deductions, tax withholdings, sick leave, vacation leave, and district benefits.
  • Adheres to the strict confidentiality of payroll records, pay rate information, and other wage related information.
  • Interacts with employees in a timely and courteous manner regarding payroll questions and concerns.
  • Investigates and corrects payroll discrepancies and errors in a timely manner.
  • Contributes to a team effort by effectively creating and maintaining positive relationships within the department as well as with other departments within the district.
  • Maintains a high level of organization in both workspace and time management.
  • Cross-trains within the payroll department to ensure backup support for payroll-related processes.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Payroll Manager.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Graduate or equivalent and two years of payroll experience.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Personal computer and mainframe experience required. Spreadsheet experience required. Ability to work independently, with limited supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
Open to schedule changes and working non-business hours, as needed.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Position usually demands meeting deadlines with severe time constraints. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
