Intercoastal Medical Group is Hiring a Registered Nurse, Oncology Near Sarasota, FL

Oncology RN

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Clinical Staff Manager and/or Office Manager.

Position Summary: Schedule based on operational needs in a medical office environment. Weekdays.

The RN is responsible for providing health and patient care management under physician or mid- level supervision for Intercoastal Medical Group.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilization of the electronic medical record (may include but not limited to updating patient demographics, clinical documentation, tasking, scheduling)
  • Perform nursing duties including (but not limited to)-administer prescribed medications, infusions and/or injections, perform treatments and tests according to provider orders
  • Assist provider with exams and treatments. Collect and document accurately- allergies, medications, vital signs into the electronic medical record
  • Perform chart prep for upcoming appointments when needed
  • Communicate with provider in regards to patient care and treatment
  • Document all patient phone calls and interactions in the electronic medical record
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary
  • Mix Chemotherapy agents under the direction and supervision of the provider
  • Sign off on all documentation, medication administered in the electronic medical record
  • Draw/Collect lab specimens from patents as ordered by the provider, prepare the lab specimens for pickup
  • Run daily and weekly quality control on the lab equipment

Additional Functions:

  • Comply with all applicable infection control and safety procedures
  • Maintain appropriately stocked, disinfected and neat exam rooms, Chemo room, infusion room and clinical work areas
  • Travel between other Intercoastal facilities/offices to provide coverage when needed
  • Greet and assist patients of all ages with various medical conditions
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, safety glasses, and face masks to prevent exposure
  • Continuously remain educated regarding medications specific to job
  • Maintain appropriate continuing education to retain active licensure or certification
  • Follow the proper sharps and biomedical waste protocol
  • Follow all system downtime procedures appropriately when needed
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills with patients, their families and co-workers
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results
  • Work non-essential tasks as assigned by coordinator or manager

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at a computer/keyboard and on telephones throughout the work day
  • Perform patient transfer and push patients in wheelchairs
  • Data entry into computer system
  • May include long periods of standing and walking
  • Intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending

Recommended Skills: Basic knowledge and understanding of patient confidentiality; Knowledge of medical terminology; Previous clinical experience as a LPN/RN in Oncology; Strong computer experience; Efficiently performs data entry using appropriate grammar and spelling; Excellent phone etiquette and verbal communication; Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as take direction from coordinator/manager; Strong organizational and time management skills; Customer service experience; Ability to multi-task.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Graduation from a RN program

Certification/Licensure Requirements:

  • Current Florida Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Current CPR Certification
  • OCN Certification preferred

Salary will commensurate with experience and Oncology related certifications.
