JOB TITLE: TTP Youth Workers

DEPARTMENT: Public Services

CLASSIFICATION: Temporary Full Time/Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an entry level position for the Hualapai Transportation Program intended toward Youth between the ages of 15 to 18 who are currently enrolled in High School. Duties and basic tasks include labor, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping. You will learn skills needed to one day operate department of transportation equipment, repair and maintain roadways by observing and sometimes assisting with minor repairs and other various transportation projects. ** Youth will be rotating through the programs of the Hualapai Tribal Transportation Program. They will be learning various trades of Tribal Transportation on the job.

DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

• Uses various hand tools (e.g., shovels & rakes) in the maintenance of roadways and transportation facilities.
• May assist with brush clearance, tree removal and weed control work.
• Maintenance on transportation facilities such as striping lots, sidewalks and painting curbs.
• May perform traffic monitoring and control, including the distribution of barricades, warning signs, safety cones and/or the flagging of vehicles.
• Maintains basic records of daily work performed.
• Follows basic safety policies & procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by higher authority

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

• Must be enrolled in a High School

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Cooperate with co-workers on group projects;
• Be highly engaged, collaborative and embrace a culture of public service.

Other:

• Must demonstrate responsibility and willing to handle the task given to learn the skills of the job.
• Must get parent waiver signed before start date.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Exposure to physical environment which includes dust, noise, odors, extreme weather (hot & cold), insects such as bees, mosquitoes, flies & spiders or other similar elements.
