Pittsburg State University Career Site Minimal is Hiring an Accounting Specialist Near Pittsburg, KS
Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for an Accounting Specialist in the Business Office. The primary function of the Accounting Specialist position is to perform audits of financial transactions for compliance with applicable Federal, State, University, and other policies.
Duties and Responsibilities of Position
(40%) Essential. This position is responsible for performing audits to state and local payment requests. Procurement Card purchases reviewing, verifying, and correcting all pertinent information including object codes, vendor information, and supporting documentation. Determining if payment has been properly authorized and an analysis performed for compliance with all applicable regulations and procedures.
(30%) Essential. This position is responsible for reviewing, monitoring, and processing travel expenditures and reimbursements for University faculty and staff. This position will determine if reimbursement is appropriate and in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. The Accounting Specialists will frequently be in contact with University faculty and staff administering travel policies and offering support in the timely and accurate processing of travel claims.
(15%) Essential. This position is responsible for aiding the Business Office in the creation and distribution of training materials to University faculty and staff. Training material will cover how to use the University’s ERP system and numerous policies in place for employee travel and purchasing of goods and services.
(10%) Essential. This position will complete Positive Pay as needed. This position will Monitor checks being issued and cashed with daily reviews of local online banking.
(5%) Essential. This position will assist with special projects in the Controller’s Office and Business Office, and perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience – Required at Hire and Preferred
Required Education and Experience at Hire -
- High School Diploma
- Three years of fiscal, office or administrative support
- Education may be substituted for experience as determined by the University
Preferred Education and Experience -
- Two years accounting or bookkeeping experience

Work Schedule: Full Time – Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
