Military Counselor

Job Summary:
The Military Liaison Counselor serves as a vital link between Craven County Schools (CCS) and military installations, facilitating seamless transitions and providing comprehensive support to military-connected students and families. This role requires expertise in navigating both the public school system and military protocols, alongside a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by military families. The incumbent will collaborate with various stakeholders, including school personnel, military personnel, and community organizations, to ensure the educational and emotional needs of military students are met.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Establish Effective Communication: Develop and maintain an active communication system between CCS and military installations to ensure timely exchange of information and resources.
2. Advocate for Military Families: Serve as a dedicated advocate for the needs of military children and families within CCS, addressing individual concerns and promoting supportive solutions.
3. Provide Consultation and Support: Offer consultation, resources, and information sessions to military families at individual schools, addressing deployment-related challenges and transitions.
4. Coordinate Services: ** Collaborate with CCS personnel and external agencies to coordinate services, identify gaps, and ensure smooth transitions for military-connected families.
5. Promote Parent Engagement: Encourage active involvement of parents in the education of military students, providing educational information and support regarding school policies and regulations.
6. Facilitate Professional Development: Conduct staff development sessions to educate school personnel on the unique needs of military students and strategies for support.
7. Data Analysis and Reporting: ** Compile, analyze, and report data on the effectiveness of programs and activities implemented to support military students and families.
8. Liaison and Collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact for military families concerning school-related matters, collaborating with military liaisons and community organizations to ensure a network of support is in place.
9. Program Oversight: Oversee and support programs such as Student to Student (S2S) and Junior Student to Student (JS2S), ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
10. Event Coordination: Organize events such as Military Family Forums and recognition initiatives to engage stakeholders and promote awareness of military family needs.

Qualifications:

• Hold or be eligible to hold a valid North Carolina license in school counseling, social work, psychology, or relevant field.
• Demonstrated experience working with military families, with a strong understanding of the challenges they face.
• Knowledge of consulting processes, military rank structures, and local, state, and federal regulations.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in navigating the public school system and military installations to coordinate services and support military-connected families.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements:

• The role involves light physical work and requires the ability to analyze data, communicate effectively, and respond to inquiries with tact and courtesy.
