Job Summary

This position is responsible for monitoring and managing safety hazards during the construction of and safe operations of reverse osmosis facilities located in the Caribbean and possibly Central and South America. The Caribbean EHS Manager verifies compliance with local health and safety regulations, best practices and updates the programs as required and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. The Caribbean EHS Manager works closely with the EHS director, project/construction teams, local plant manager and operations staff to ensure new/upgrade projects and daily operations are performed safely. This position aims to continuously improve the safety culture, standardize procedures companywide and be a safety ambassador for the company.

Work Environment

· This role splits time between an office/remote environment, active construction sites and operating reverse osmosis facilities located throughout the Caribbean. 

· General construction site hazards include hot work, confined space, crane operations and working from heights.

· Operating facility hazards include but are not limited to, slips, trips and falls, confined spaces, lockout tagout, noise, high pressure equipment, forklift operations and chemical handling.

· Working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. 

· The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include oversight of a team that executes on the following:

  • Identify, document, and work closely with the local teams to correct unsafe site conditions.
  • Take the lead developing, reviewing, and implementing site-specific policies and procedures with guidance from the EHS director as needed.
  • Train employees on best practice, company safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Lead the in-house safety training program.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, property damage, and personal injury investigations.
  • Lead and participate in local safety events.
  • Update and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Manage open safety follow-up items and provide support to local teams as needed.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the safety policies.
  • Performs other safety related duties and initiatives, as assigned.
  • Assist the EHS Director with technical support, development, and management of the KPA safety management software.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience as a safety manager working in industrial construction and/or general industry.
  • Experience assessing and addressing general construction, electrical hazards, hot work, confined spaces, and crane hazards.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office.
  • The ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures is essential.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA 70E, and local standards regarding construction and general industry.
  • Travel is required at least 50% of the time, must have passport and be able to travel internationally.
