Job Title: Content Integrity Intern

Reports To: Content Integrity Team Lead, Director of Policy Content and Strategy, and COO

Job Description: The Content Integrity Intern contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by researching, developing, and executing comprehensive policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all content produced by our organization across various channels, including policy, politics, digital media, marketing, and community outreach. This intern’s role is critical in upholding the organization's reputation and ensuring the dissemination of accurate, reliable, and trustworthy information across all content streams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to integrity, objectivity, and transparency, and will play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of content quality and credibility. This intern will work closely with the Content Integrity team lead, the Director of Policy Content and Strategy, and the COO, while also working independently.

This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. This intern must commit to at least the end of the Summer semester (August 30th, 2024). However, many people choose to extend their internship past the amount of time they initially committed to, provided their performance meets the required standards.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct in-depth research and analysis to establish clear and robust fact-checking and evidence assessment protocols, aligning with industry best practices and professional standards.

• Develop and document comprehensive policies and procedures for content vetting, ensuring the consistent application of rigorous fact-checking and accuracy standards across all content production streams.

• Collaborate closely with content creators, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to thoroughly vet and validate the accuracy, completeness, and objectivity of information before publication or dissemination.

• Identify and mitigate potential risks of misinformation, compromising omissions, or biases in content, ensuring the highest levels of integrity and transparency.

• Provide guidance, training, and support to internal teams on adhering to established fact-checking and evidence assessment protocols.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments, trends, and best practices in the fields of content integrity, fact-checking, and misinformation prevention.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including digital media, marketing, and community outreach, to ensure consistency and adherence to established content integrity standards.

• Continuously evaluate and refine processes, policies, and methodologies to enhance the organization's content integrity efforts.

• Be flexible and willing to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Requirements: The Content Integrity Intern should have the following skills, education, and experience:

• This role would be good for those with or working towards a degree in Journalism, Communications, Information Science, or related fields.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills required, with the ability to evaluate information objectively and identify potential biases or inaccuracies.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

• Excellent research and investigation skills, with the ability to navigate and synthesize information from various sources.

• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and integrity.

• Familiarity with relevant fact-checking tools, databases, and online resources is a plus.

• Adaptability and a willingness to continuously learn and improve processes.

• Google Workspace experience preferred.

• Ability to attend the biweekly (Monday) Organization-Wide meetings (mandatory).

• Ability to attend weekly Policy Content Department meetings (mandatory).

• Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
