GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Performs custodial work required for the routine care, cleanliness, protection and preservation of the assigned building, its contents, and immediate grounds in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

● High school diploma or GED

● Experience in custodial industry or ability to be trained by the Maintenance Manager or team member

● Knowledge of housekeeping practices, supplies, materials, equipment, and the ability to perform custodial duties

● Knowledge of minor equipment repairs

● Knowledge of routine maintenance

● Strong organizational skills

● Attitude of helpfulness

● Able to be discreet and maintain confidentiality

● Able to follow oral and written instructions

● Able to communicate effectively

● Flexible, with changing priorities and processes

● Able to remain calm under pressure while handling common inquiries, complaints, or identifying emergent situations

● Able to work well either alone or as part of a team

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Moving of equipment, furniture and other items as needed around school

● Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Principal

● Maintain an environment in the assigned workplace safe and conducive to student learning

● Report custodial supply needs to maintenance manager or CVCS Administrative Assistant

● Assure that cleanliness in the school meets school standards

● Be responsive to the needs of the building administrator including arrangements for special activities and events

● Communicate clearly with others using verbal and written methods

● Perform the daily work responsibilities assigned and approved for the position

● Perform work and use equipment including cleaning agents, vacuums, yard equipment, furniture and equipment dollies, various floor care machines, hand tools and ladders

● Maintain required trainings as required by the State of Iowa, Archdiocese, and local site

● Complete deep cleaning and maintenance during the summer months

JOB SCOPE: Position encounters variations in work situations and questions. Incumbent operates under general directions and instructions, performing with moderate supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach, climb, stretch, stooping, and bend throughout the shift hours. Bending, lifting to 75 lbs. on a routine basis, climbing, continuous standing while working required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and outside the school building. Employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, chemicals, inclement weather, and blood borne pathogens.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
