Position Description – Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

The Lexis Group is looking for Experienced Full-Time & Part-Time Certified Welding Inspector capable of working for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections of welded structures and components to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Review and approve welding procedures and qualifications.
  • Monitor and assess the quality of welding work throughout the construction project.
  • Provide guidance and support to welders and other team members to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of inspections, tests, and reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression and successful completion.
  • Conduct on-site training and coaching for welding personnel as needed.
  • Identify and resolve any welding or fabrication-related issues promptly.
  • Enforce safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.

Requirements:

  • AWS CWI certification
  • NDT Level II in MT preferred
  • NDT Level II in UT or RT preferred
  • Demonstrated experience performing quality inspection of welds in accordance with AWS D1.1 and D1.5
  • Access and ability to operate a computer utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel, the internet, and email
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to meet pre-employment requirements
  • Reliable vehicle suitable for use on construction sites
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, as required
  • Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally and up to 10 lbs. frequently
  • Ability to interpret engineering and construction plans/specifications
  • Authorized to work in the United States, sponsorship not available

The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of building construction practices. Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians, and project managers; strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this position.
