SUPERVISOR: Director of Communications

FULL/PART TIME: Part-time; approximately 10-15 hours per week

If you are passionate about all thing’s communication, media, and creativity within the Christian space, this is the internship for you! Help us tell stories of God’s faithfulness to others through any of our communication pillars, copywriting, photography, videography, graphic design, and social media management. There is tremendous potential to learn and grow your skills in this position and gain new skills as you work alongside the First Pres staff.

First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn (or “First Pres”) has a rich history of engaging in both local and international mission and justice ministries. There is a long history of equipping people for a life-long journey of discipleship through participation in Bible study, small groups, and mission. We are a growing PC(USA) congregation with an emphasis on both discipleship and outreach, and are looking for someone to minister in worship through the same lens. Having wrestled through issues at both the denominational and congregational level, First Pres is a church that has remained a family centered on Jesus Christ. We are a church that desires to see individuals of all ages serve alongside one another in what God is already doing in our church, community, and beyond. which every worship participant feels compelled engage with their entire selves.

• The Intern is an effective collaborator with the staff at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn and the Director of Communications.
• The Intern actively offers suggestions and ideas on how to reinvent communication ministry in the twenty-first century.

The Communications Intern needs to be someone with a deep and growing faith in Jesus Christ, and who is intentional with personal prayer and Bible study. Has a passion for media and communications, the Communications Intern easily connects with people, and has an understanding of current cultural trends.

• Help plan and coordinate internal and external communications strategy and engagement alongside the communications director.

• Write copy for social media posts, promotional emails, and other marketing material
• Maintain and update the First Pres’s social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter)
• Assist in brainstorming a social media strategy and schedule.
• Develop and execute marketing strategies across a variety of media/platforms

• Oversee the production of church publications, such as the church bulletin, eNews, and website *Website design skills are not required for this internship, but the intern will create content to be displayed on the website
• Work with various ministries to assess and serve their promotional needs
• Writing, editing, and proofreading

• Assist in video production within the First Pres studio.
• Assist in safe transfer of footage and video editing.
• Work with the communications director and staff to create compelling video ideas to be shown to the congregation and beyond.

• At least one year of college education preferred.
• Have a passion for communications and media.
• Skills in one or more of the communications pillars.
• Understand basic social media practices and algorithms.
• Displays openness to learning new skills.
