Monday and Tuesday; 9 : 00 - 5

Wednesday - Friday : 9-4 : 30

Major Responsibilities :

• Processes all reusable medical / surgical items for issue according to departmental and infection control policy and procedures.
• Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control guidelines. Completes thorough cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Processes patient care equipment for re-issue. Inspects patient care equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning.
• Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper functioning.
• Performs biological indicator tests on the Steam sterilizers and the Sterrad Unit and Steris One.
• Assembles instrument sets according to department protocols. Packages instrument sets for sterilizing.
• Distributes sterile equipment to appropriate areas. Communicates and notifies all personnel for the recall of sterilized items.
• Restocks surgery unit with medical / surgical supplies. Maintains established supply levels in the Central Processing area.
• Revises department policies to meet the department standards. Observes environmental standards for the Central Processing area.
• Lifts, carries and / or pushes / pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required :

Good interpersonal communication skills. Requires the ability to receive and present information with proper conduct and tact.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :

• Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders on a daily basis.
• Must be able to :
• lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead
• lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
• lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
• Must be able to :
• push / pull with 20 lbs. of force
• Position requires repetitive use of feet (i.e., heat sealer, sonic cleaner).
• Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
• May be exposed to chemical hazards; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
