Summary

The Recreation Program Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and supervision of the City’s recreation rental facilities including park buildings, picnic shelters, the Muriel Sahlin Arboretum, Harriet Alexander Nature Center and seasonal warming houses. This position will manage, organize, lead, and facilitate day-to-day tasks and duties associated with recreation facilities and rental equipment to ensure the recreation needs of residents are being met with high quality programs, events, and services that promote community wellness.

Essential Duties Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage annual budgets for areas of oversight under the direction of the divisional Superintendent.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise and schedule part-time and seasonal staff
• Market programs and services that this position supervises.
• Schedule facilities for user groups and private renters at park buildings, picnic shelters, the nature center, arboretum, and City Hall conference rooms.
• Respond effectively to facility rental requests by online form, email, and phone calls.
• Oversee contracted cleaning company.
• Monitor facility supplies for inventory, maintenance, repairs, signage, and other areas to maintain quality within facility spaces.
• Respond to permit requests and issues once approved.
• Rental operations management for winter ski and snowshoe equipment.
• Manage winter outdoor ice rink operations.
• Develop and oversee programs and special events.
• Assist other departments and employees, as necessary.

Required Skills/Experience/Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation management, or related field.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to get to multiple sites within the City during the workday.
• Minimum (2) year experience in parks and recreation or a related field.
• Supervisory experience
• Detailed, ability to think critically, identify problems, provide solutions, contribute positively, mentor, lead and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional customer service, time management and communication skills.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Most work is in a normal office environment with limited exposure to outdoor work, or more disagreeable elements that may be moderately intense at times such as a cold environment, pace of workflow or angry customers. There is also limited lifting of sixty (60) pounds intermittently during program and rental setups. Some evenings and weekends will be required. Work is performed at a high level of detail or pressure of deadlines with light physical effort, and occasional noise.
