Description
The Project Scientist uses scientific education and knowledge, professional judgment and discretion, to research, plan, and conduct environmental field work and data analysis; completes literature research; compiles resource data; and prepares reports and studies for clients. The Project Scientist uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments. This position works on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features. The Project Scientist reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality. This position works independently to perform technical activities consistent with project plans within project scope and budget and regularly communicates with Project Managers regarding project activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY
• Work with Project Managers and team members to maximize profitability while maintaining a high level of quality.
• Perform model development; model integration and process development; and research, collection, compilation, and analysis of data.
• Prepare permit applications.
• Thoroughly understand environmental regulations.
• Evaluate, select, and apply scientific techniques.
• Perform literature reviews and obtain data necessary to complete watershed analysis.
• May perform GIS analysis.
• Write technical reports, papers, and presentations.
• Obtain, update, review and correlate data and recognize discrepancies in results using a series of related detailed steps or processes.
• Prepare complete project documents including, studies, reports, and technical specifications.
• Prepare concise and correct written correspondence.
• Work independently or as part of a team to perform technical activities consistent with project plans within project scope and budget.
• Track progress on project tasks relative to scope, deliverables, schedule, and budget.
• Meet deadlines or assist others in meeting deadlines.
• Provide consultative value to clients.
• Review the work of Associate Scientists that was completed under his/her direction.
• Engage in continuing professional development, and apply new scientific information as appropriate.
QUALITY PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY
• Provides quality control review of work product on projects to ensure they meet Company, industry, and client standards and expectations in accordance with the Jones Edmunds Project Management Manual and Jones Edmunds Quality Program.
• Responsible for the quality of work submitted. Review work product before submitting it to the next review level.
• Submit work for quality control review on time and in a complete format.
• Adhere to project deadlines and keep the Project Manager informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
• Complete peer reviews of work in a thorough and timely manner to ensure the quality and service our clients receive.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
• May act as Task Manager
MARKETING RESPONSIBILITY
• Participate in developing technical papers and presentations.
• Assist in developing client proposals for projects to ensure a complete scope that meets Company, industry, and client standards and expectations.
• Present a professional and positive image of Jones Edmunds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: BS in Geology, Wetlands Ecology, Environmental, Hydrology, or related sciences from accredited college or university
Registration: Florida Professional Geologist (where applicable)
Certification: None
Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressive consulting or related experience
MS in Geology, Wetlands Ecology, or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for 1 year of experience
PhD in Geology, Wetlands Ecology, or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for 2 years of experience
Other: Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable MVR
