Purpose of Position:

Guide a team approach to student and family ministry. Encourage and empower parents, leaders, and the congregation to invest their time, talents, and treasures into student and family ministry. Build disciples for Christ within relational environments and equip our students and families to share their faith with others.

Oversight and Support for the Position:

1. General guidance and supervision is provided by the Lead Pastor.

2. Oversight of the job description, employment agreement, yearly review, and support for implementation of personnel policies is the responsibility of the Personnel Committee.

3. Hiring and official decision making based on recommendations of the Personnel Committee are the responsibilities of the Church Council, according to the constitution of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Essential Functions of the Position: God’s Work. Our Hands.

1. Empower parents to be faith leaders for their children.

a. Recruit, train, and coordinate adult leaders to serve in the various aspects of youth and family ministry. (e.g. Faith Formation leaders, volunteers, teachers, chaperones for activities)

b. Communicate effectively with parents, families, and the community by utilizing multiple channels (e.g. social media, email, text).

2. Encourage, challenge, and provide for spiritual care and education of our youth and children.

a. Develop and empower youth of all ages to embrace leadership roles in the congregation and wider Christian community.

b. Purchase and prepare age-appropriate curriculum that adheres to our Lutheran theology and heritage.

c. Plan and lead Faith Formation programs for children ages 3 to grade 12 that are in line with the mission and vision of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

d. Collaborate with the Lead Pastor for Faith Formation programs for Grades 6 through 9.

e. Develop a Milestone Ministry in collaboration with the Lead Pastor.

f. Provide summer ministry programs.

3. Advocate for youth and family, and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns, and needs of youth and families in our congregation and community.

4. Create and maintain operational tasks in support of Youth and Family Ministries.

a. Ensure that the OSLC Child Protection Policy is implemented in all youth and family ministry settings.

b. Coordinate fundraising efforts.

c. Create and maintain the Youth and Family Ministry budget.

d. Build an annual ministry calendar for all Youth and Family Ministry events and programs.

e. Maintain records of youth and family activities and participation and collaborate with the church database.

5. Assist in worship as coordinated with the Lead Pastor (e.g. develop and lead Children’s messages).

Qualifications and Experience:

1. Excellent overall communication skills.

2. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, collaborate, and coordinate programs and activities.

3. Proficiency with a variety of technology and social media platforms.

4. Previous experience in youth and family ministry preferred.

Hours and Compensation:

1. Compensation: Salaried position

2. Hours: 15-18 hours per week

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.50 - $20.00 per hour
