Job Summary
The Residence Life Coordinator III is a mid-level manager, reporting to the Community Standards Administrator. This position is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and management to all functions of a 24/7/365 security/service desk operations for all University Housing facilities (Cambridge Commons, RiverView, Sandburg Residence Halls, and Kenilworth Square Apartments).
The position encompasses the development, evaluation, training, and supervision of around eighty student staff team members, in addition to providing indirect oversight of RA staff who assist with building access monitor station support.
This position provides leadership related to cross-over training of the Residence Life Staff members (Residence Life Coordinators and Resident Assistants (RA)) related to customer service, building access, life safety measures, security, administrative and building protocols. Training and development of housing team members is considered an ongoing commitment to ensuring full-time and student staff are provided effective training and development methods that support the departmental mission. Through the training and development of the team, this position works to help create student leadership succession within the department.
This live-in position entails serving on the rotating administrative on-call duty response team, necessitating availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays. The primary responsibility is to address high-level incidents involving student and guest behaviors, such as mental health issues, suicidal ideation, sexual assaults, and violations related to alcohol and drug incidents, supporting Residence Life Coordinator II in their direct on-call duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for this position must have or provide evidence of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
  • Minimum two years professional experience supervising in an educational or customer service-oriented environment. Graduate work would be considered half-time experience.
  • Minimum two years of professional live-in experience within an University Housing/Residence Life setting
  • Minimum of two years of experience in on-call duty and/or crisis response
  • Previous experience supervising student employees
Preferred Qualifications
Highly qualified applicants for this position will also provide evidence of the following:
  • A master’s degree
  • Evidence of the ability to plan and organize a 24/7/365 operation
  • Experience managing security or desk operations in a higher education environment
  • Experience planning and implementing a training and development program
  • Adjudication of low-level student conduct and/or student behavior issues (e.g., noise complaints, roommate conflicts, alcohol, etc.)
  • Experience working with a diverse student population or shown participation in learning about a variety of student identities (race, sexuality, socioeconomic status, religion, first generation status, etc.)
  • Experience with educational programming or working with High Impact Practices, such as Living Learning Communities, First-year experiences, experiential learning, etc.
  • Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively through team leadership or committee involvement
