We are looking for a Barista to prepare and serve hand-made hot & cold beverages and light fare, including various types of coffee and tea.

This is a part-time, tipped position: take-home pay is generally $20 per hour. The work schedule will normally be Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings, 5 hours per shift. If you are not available on those days, please do not apply.

Barista responsibilities include explaining the menu, making recommendations to customers based on customers' preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders.

We make all our own flavor syrups in-house, and also serve a small menu of bagels and toasts, so this is not strictly a coffee job. You will be responsibility for prepping some of this food, as well as keeping the cafe clean. We are a very small business so everyone is expected to work hard and pitch in with just about everything.

To be successful in this role, you should have strong customer service skills and a passion for specialty coffee. Ultimately, you’ll ensure an excellent experience for our guests.

You must be able to lift 50lbs and be comfortable using a short step-ladder.

This position may turn into a full-time position. Full-time employees can join our health insurance group plan (employer pays 50% of the premium) and receive two weeks paid time off per year.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers as they enter
• Answer customers' questions regarding the menu
• Take orders while paying attention to details
• Prepare beverages following recipes
• Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
• Serve bagels and toasts
• Prep syrups and toast toppings
• Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
• Keep the entire cafe clean including the bathroom
• Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates
• Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
• Comply with health and safety regulations
• Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items
• Other duties as appropriate as assigned by your Manager

Skills

• Previous work experience as a Barista or Waiter/Waitress
• Hands-on experience with brewing equipment
• Knowledge of sanitation regulations
• Flexibility to work various shifts
• Basic math skills
• Ability to gauge customers’ preferences
• Excellent communication skills
• High school diploma; relevant training is a plus
