Further employment opportunities available beyond summer camp if interested. Summer Squad (ages 8-16) is currently looking for a Sports Director for Summer 2024.

We are seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Sports Director to join our team at Summer Squad. As the Sports Director, you will play a crucial role in providing a well-rounded sports program for campers ages 8-16 both outdoors and indoors. The objective of the Sports Director is to work directly with the camp counselors and campers by planning and implementing day to day sports activities and games under the direction of the Specialty and Camp Director. This includes creating a curriculum based on the weekly themes and/ or YMCA Core Values when possible, and that caters to the diverse interests and abilities of the campers to foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging campers to actively participate and develop a passion for physical activity. Other responsibilities include communicating what supplies are needed, organizing and maintaining the sports equipment, enforcing safety protocols (warm-ups, proper equipment usage, adherence to rules), and keeping to the schedule. This director would have supervisory responsibilities to include to assist in facilitating a welcoming, supportive and safe camp environment, assist in planning and implementation of Fun Fridays and other camp events, provide support to campers and staff during free and transition times, assist in ensuring the overall clean up of camp on a daily basis, help guide Junior Counselors, Counselors in Training, and/or Summer Youth participants to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills, and other duties as assigned.

Summer camp runs from July 1st - August 23rd with an additional bonus week from August 26th- 30th. This is a seasonal position over the summer months with a potential to work in other part time positions with the YMCA in the fall.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have expertise in a variety of sports and the ability to teach fundamental skills while promoting good sportsmanship and teamwork.

• Must be at least 20 years old.
• Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field.
• Education classes in Sports Management.
• Ability to lead, plan, organize and implement program activities.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
• Strong Organizational skills
• Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities
• Must have completed at least 1 year of college
• First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain when hired
