Position SummaryThe University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Associate Director, Resource Management & User Experience to provide oversight for all resource management units, focusing on enhancing library user experiences by maximizing resource interoperability. Rice Library uses the TIND ILS and institutional repository platform, and is migrating to the TIND Digital Archive platform in 2024. The library uses the ILLiad resource sharing management software.
The anticipated start date will be September 2024.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and long-range planning for all resource management units, including collection acquisitions, management, analysis, and metadata; resource sharing, digital content strategies and platform administration; and vendor relations.
  • Coordinate all technology service requests and updates across all library units and collaborate with IT personnel.
  • Serve as an adviser to the Director of Library Services regarding operational issues, resource management, and user experience.
  • Along with the leadership team, contribute to strategic and other long- and short-term planning for library services and programs.
  • Work with other leaders to recommend, establish, and develop library-wide priorities and policies.
  • Monitor the annual materials budget and create budget and statistical reports as needed.
  • Partner with on-campus units such as Online Learning, Disability Resources, and the College Achievement Program to promote student success through the delivery of online library resources and support.
  • Represent the library on campus, at local and regional meetings, as well as at meetings at the state level, and at national library organizations. Attend University Curriculum Committee meetings and college curriculum committee meetings.
  • Seek professional development opportunities, including attending conferences and serving on library, university, regional, state, or national committees as appropriate.
  • Related work as apparent or assigned.
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • American Library Association-accredited Master of Library Science degree (or equivalent).
  • Two years of professional experience in an academic library.
  • Substantial front- and back-end experience with major library systems and service platforms including LibApps, integrated library systems, digital repositories, and discovery layers required Functionality with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty members, and staff in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and evidence of creative and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; strong service orientation; ability to work independently and collaboratively; demonstrated flexibility and attention to detail.
  • Evidence of strong initiative.
  • Experience in supervising and managing library staff, including all aspects of performance management and organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate library staff members and to foster an environment of collaboration and experimentation. Knowledge of current issues and trends in modern academic libraries.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Must present a professional demeanor while meeting deadlines and achieving critical outcomes, even under demanding conditions, such as multiple priorities and short-notice deadlines.
