TalentWell is Hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician Near Irving, TX

MLT Opportunity:

TalentWell is hiring an MLT for an mid-day shift supporting a fast-paced, busy medical laboratory in the Irving, TX area. This role will work within the core lab completing medical testing of specimens for hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, and some microbiology.

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Pay: $26.00-$30.00/hour based on experience and tenure
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday 12:00pm-8:30pm or 9:00pm (depending on 30 minute or 1 hour lunch)
  • Benefits: Competitive medical benefits (health, vision, dental) ,3 weeks PTO, 9 paid holidays a year, and matching 401k.

MLT Essential Job Functions:

Performs all laboratory testing specific to the assigned section.

  • Successfully participates in the laboratory’s competency assessment program and takes responsibility to ensure that competency assessments are performed on time at the required intervals
  • Performs all test procedures according to their standard operating protocols (SOPs). Complies with accreditation standards regarding SOPs such as periodic review and documentation of that review.
  • Adheres to the laboratory’s Quality Control policies such as, but not limited to, frequency of performance, troubleshooting and refraining from reporting patient results when out of control
  • Successfully troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Demonstrates competency with the laboratory information system.
  • Uses company resources such as reagents, supplies and time respectfully, striving to always minimize costs.
  • Completes, verifies and reports testing in timely manner. Notifies the laboratory manager whenever a reporting error occurs.
  • Complies with safety guidelines and procedures and adheres to regulatory mandates.
  • Successfully participates in the laboratory’s proficiency testing program and ensures compliance with the law and CAP accreditation standards.
  • Adheres to the laboratory’s policy for repeating critical values prior to reporting results. Participates in the notification of critical values to providers, and documents that notification according to CAP requirements.
  • Participates in and supports the laboratory’s Quality Assurance program
  • Remains responsible and accountable for all actions.

Enhances productivity and laboratory lab functions by demonstrating dependability.

  • Adjusts, prioritizes, and organizes work to achieve maximum productivity to meet the workload demands of the section.
  • Assists peers and supervisors with tasks after completion of assigned work.
  • Adheres to attendance policy, begins work as scheduled.
  • Works independently, utilizes resources available to maximize efficiency.

Assists in the development of laboratory personnel and tests, to enhance laboratory functions.

  • Participates in process improvement projects.
  • Coaches/mentors students and Lab Assistants as assigned.

Customer Service

  • Manages all customer service interactions with diplomacy, actively facilitating resolutions to problems and addressing the needs of clients both internal and external.

Computer Skills

  • Maintains proficiency on computer functions in the lab processes.
  • Properly acquires specimen data into computer system(s).
  • Analyzes and evaluates patient results correctly and appropriately.
  • Stores patient information and results to allow easy future access as required.

Other duties as assigned

MLT Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in science-related field
  • MLT or MT (ASCP/AMT) certification required
  • 3 years or more of clinical lab experience working as a generalist
  • Experience with hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, and some microbiology
