Society of Actuaries Research Institute is Hiring a Junior Salesforce DevOps Engineer Near Chicago, IL

Junior Salesforce DevOps Engineer

*This is a hybrid position that is based in our Chicago/O’Hare Area office. Applicants must live within a 100-mile radius of home office to be considered for the role.

Your Purpose: 

Responsible for hands-on software development, system integration, architecture, cloud infrastructure and system administration for key critical business systems, including the Customer Relationship Manager (CRM), the organization’s integration strategy and supporting middleware. This position involves prototyping, hands-on development and testing of key software components in addition to serving in a critical operations role for the system’s virtual cloud infrastructure.

What You’ll Do: 

  1. Development and Collaboration (70%):
    • Collaborate with organization’s developers and/or development partners.
    • Define requirements with SMEs and project teams. 
    • Manage Salesforce environments, and deploy code using source control and defined DevOps processes and procedures.
    • Design, develop, and enhance critical business systems (including .NET web apps and Salesforce).
    • Implement continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to streamline software release processes. 
    • Manage infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform.
    • Enhance security and user experience through Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions.
    • Automate Cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration.
    • Develop Apex, Lightning Web Components, Lightning Design Systems, and maintain existing Visualforce implementations to support business requirements for custom solutions.
    • Perform code reviews for third party developed solutions and oversee remediation efforts.
    • Monitor system performance and implement strategies to optimize and improve efficiency. 
  2. System Administration and Support (20%):
    • Understand business functions, process and problems and offer solutions.
    • Manage hosting and system administration for the cloud infrastructure supporting web based applications, business intelligence functions and associated databases.
    • Monitor software releases, patches from vendors and perform proactive maintenance.
    • Monitor industry developments in security and proactively provide action to ensure web platforms are protected against malicious attacks. 
    • Engage in planning meetings with product managers, developers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and timelines. 
    • Adapt software development and system architecture based on industry trends and provide input on infrastructure and deployment considerations. 
  3. Application Architecture and Security (5%):
    • Ensure secure application design in cloud environments.
    • Collaborate with the cyber security team for pen testing.
    • Manage source code control repository and standards.
  4. General Planning and Administration (5%):
    • Provide regular project updates to management.
    • Track hosting fees and licensing costs for assigned applications.
    • Provide 24/7 On-call support on a rotating schedule.

What You’ll Need:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar is desired (or equivalent work experience in the Information Technology industry).
  • Hands-on software development experience involving web technologies (.Net, JavaScript).
  • Experience and/or interest in managing infrastructure.
  • Extensive knowledge in designing/coding responsive web application. 
  • Knowledge of various web platforms and technologies.
