Secondary is Hiring a BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN (#2022-201) Near Puyallup, WA

SUMMARY: The Behavior Technician will work with the Special Services department with a special, intensive focus on the needs of students with significant behavioral challenges. This individual is responsible for assisting the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or Special Education Case Manager to provide and implement intensive supports for behavior reduction and skill acquisition plans. The Behavior Technician will assist individual students, classroom teachers, Paraeducators, all special education staff, building teams, and parent/guardians with day to day activities behavior monitoring and recording and collecting data on progress. The Behavior Technician will work within the context of a team with goal of supporting an environment where students with challenging behaviors can achieve academic, social, and emotional success. 

ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200 tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Supports the implementation of behavioral programming for students including: implementation of appropriate assessment and intervention methods, consultation with team members and other in the schools setting, and implementation of ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions
  • Supports crisis response and management for students who are experiencing significant behavioral and emotional challenges
  • Supports implementation of intensive direct behavior analytic interventions, skill acquisition plans, and service to appropriate students
  • Collects appropriate data, including observation and intervention support on a short term or ongoing basis for students in behavioral crisis
  • Describes behavior and environment in observable and measurable terms
  • Assists with individualized assessment procedures (e.g. curriculum-based, developmental, social skills)
  • Assists with functional assessment processes
  • Supports in threat, risk and eligibility assessment processes
  • Provides support to students, parents and school community to implement skill acquisition and behavior reduction tools
  • Works under the direct supervision of the BCBA and/or Special Education Case Manager to collect data, carry out assessments, support interventions and implements designed behavior programming
  • Collaborates with BCBA, Special Education Case Manager, para support team and building administration in the implementation of strategies that are supported by neural education research
  • Collaborates with school, community and state agencies and resources
  • Maintains professional boundaries, including the dignity and confidentiality of the student, classroom and school setting

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be at least eighteen years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) and
  • Specialized training for certification, including skill assessment and exam
  • Experience in behavioral instructional strategies and training preferred
  • Eligible for Registered Behavior Technician Certification
  • Must be Right Response or other behavioral/de-escalation trained

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of traditional Native American cultures and values

Recent previous para-educator experience

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time. The employee must frequently reach with hands and arms and is regularly required to talk or hear; stand and/or walk; bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel; and use hands to finger, handle, feel and perform fine motor manipulation. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
