At Ports America the Equipment and Engineering Technician will utilize well developed skills to maintain equipment necessary to provide daily and long-term support for stevedoring activities including but not limited to top loaders, yard hustlers, cranes, forklifts, etc.

Essential Duties:

• Reads electrical, diagrams, service manuals, analyzes & investigates faults.
• Determines the cause of failure of mechanical and or electrical components marine terminal equipment.
• Quickly and effectively answers and resolves alarms and calls during operations.
• Disassembles units and inspects equipment.
• Submits routine and critical inspection and monitoring reports, ensuring all paperwork is accurate and up to date.
• Provides daily activity report, and other written reports on equipment, as needed, with accuracy and completeness.
• The key impact of these incumbents will be the maintenance of operational efficiencies in the terminal to ensure availability of equipment required for the execution of day-to-day operational activities.
• Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of workshop facilities and all equipment.
• Conforms to all safety rules and regulations.
• Troubleshoots defects and malfunctions to electrical and mechanical systems to determine the type or extent of repair.
• Performs equipment modifications and part installations including variable frequency drives (VFD), PLC component swap out, motor and gear replacements, rope changes, hydraulic cylinder seal kit repairs.
• Operates all equipment for maintenance purposes, including diagnostic and computer software to perform job functions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance in any port, mines, steel and manufacturing plants, including specific knowledge of electrical/electronic and related disciplines.
• Valid US Driver's License
• Obtain and maintain PIT certification within 6 months of hire.
• Obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of safety requirements with working around voltage up to 13kV
• In-depth ability to interpret electrical or mechanical diagrams, simple engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications.
• General knowledge and background in technical applications of digital and analogue electronics
• General knowledge and background in mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Experience responding to emergency breakdowns and repairs with quality workmanship and service.
• Pass training for OSHA and company safety training (e.g. Lock-out/Tag-out, Hazardous Materials, etc.)

Physical Working Attributes:

• At times, work at heights over 150'
• Climb multiple flights of stairs in the summer heat and comfortable working in tight spaces.
• Lift, push, and or pull up to 60lbs.
• Work may be performed in all weather conditions.
• Work in Terminal environment including but not limited to working outside, climb ladders, access ships, long stretches of standing, walking, on your feet, etc.
• Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
