Description
Position Summary: To work with teachers, administration, Board of Education, and the community in the development, implementation and improvement of the educational program in the school district.
1. Attend and participate in all regular and special department chairperson meetings called by the high school principal(s) and/or Central Office.
2. Provide information to department members concerning new teaching materials and methods and provide specific staff development.
3. Facilitate high school department meetings on a regular basis to support department, school, and district goals.
4. Organize and facilitate district 6-12 collaborations except for departments that do not have a 6-8 program. Assist in the planning of district-wide professional development.
5. Provide strong instructional leadership. Consult with 6-12 classroom teachers, when asked by the teacher, with follow-up consultation to improve instruction, assist department teachers in handling day-to-day problems of instruction, and act as a resource person on curriculum questions.
6. Work cooperatively with other high school subject department chairpersons and middle school personnel to maintain 6-12 consistency and continuity of curriculum, board policies, administrative policies, and other district-wide areas.
7. Facilitate departmental analyses of data and together with department create action steps to improve student learning and support school improvement plans.
8. Coordinate departmental strategies regarding implementation of standards-based learning.
9. All 6-12 curricular decisions will be made in conjunction with the department heads, principals, and the director of curriculum and instruction.
10. Participate with the high school principal and consult with middle school principals in the process of recruitment, screening, interviewing, training, orientation, and assignment of department personnel.
11. Prepare and submit agendas and minutes for all meetings to the high school and middle school principal(s).
12. Recommend and coordinate the high school departmental budget and coordinate expenditures through the purchase requisition process through involvement of department staff and administrative personnel.
13. Maintain high school inventory records for supplies, textbooks, instructional equipment, and so forth. Oversee repair, maintenance, and safety of department equipment.
14. Review and revise course descriptions and outlines as needed.
15. Keep open lines of communication and cooperation between the middle and high schools as well as teachers and administration.
16. Facilitate and improve transition procedures between grades 8 and 9.
17. Problem-solving with administration and other staff members regarding personnel challenges.
18. Providing administration with activities, projects, celebrations, updates to highlight on social media platforms.
19. Organize and attend Eighth Grade Open House for your department.
20. Plan professional collaborations throughout the year.
21. Collaborate with Counseling department and Administration to develop the Master Schedule.
22. Engage in professional responsibilities to enhance individual understanding or support building learning. Examples could be, but are not limited to, professional development, conferences, book study, and/or summer work.
23. Review and revise course guide as needed.
24. Support Youth Apprenticeship staffing and coordination.
25. Perform such other duties as may be determined by the administrative staff within the parameters of the master agreement, Board of Education policies, state statutes, and administrative rules
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree and valid Wisconsin teacher's certification preferred.
2. Experience working with high school students.
3. Effective communication and organizational skills.
4. Able to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and other encountered on the job.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
