Mounds Park Academy is Hiring a STUDENT SUCCESS LEARNING SPECIALIST Near Saint Paul, MN

Position Term: 2024-2025 Full Year

Status: Full-Time, 100% FTE

Grades: Lower School (PK-4) and Middle School (5-8)

Mounds Park Academy is a PreK-12 independent school in Saint Paul, MN that serves approximately 575 students from throughout the Twin Cities area. Since 1982, Mounds Park Academy has engaged students in a rigorous college preparatory experience that is demanding, but not draining, and goes far beyond memorization. Mounds Park Academy seeks a Student Success Learning Specialist to join our school for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Student Success Learning Specialist interacts with students, parents, teachers in Lower and Middle School, the Lower School Director, and the Middle School Director. The Student Success Learning Specialist collaborates within a team to develop and implement learning plans and foster a developmentally and culturally appropriate environment for all learners. This position reports to the Lower School Director and also receives direction from the Middle School Director.

It is expected that a successful candidate would:

  • Make connections and build relationships with students to support students’ ongoing success and social-emotional development.
    • Provide direct academic support: reading clubs, math clubs, sensory room support, ADHD and Autism support groups, and general learning support in classrooms.
    • Create and update support plans based on assessment results; maintain confidential student records and documentation of diagnosis and support plans.
    • Provide testing accommodations for classes.
    • Coordinate district services, accessibility to audiobooks and assistive technology, and tools that offer support for learning.
  • Provide general guidance, support and consultation to families.
    • Consult and provide resources for assessments, tutoring, outside support.
    • Guide and support families through the assessment process; coordinate paperwork for assessments.
    • Coordinate district services: make referrals, attend evaluation and IEP meetings.
    • Communicate with prospective families as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate with teachers regarding student achievement, progress, and support plans.
    • Provide guidance and support with making accommodations; lead grade level and KidChat meetings, and observe in classrooms to help assess student support needs.
    • Serve as Lexia Core 5 administrator and MAP administrator.
    • Mentor and coordinate student support with the Student Success Teaching Assistant in Lower School.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with Division Directors and the Administration regarding student achievement, progress, and support.
    • Participate in Student Support Teams for Lower School and Middle School.
    • Consult with Admissions Team on student enrollment, interviews and records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university in education, special education, social work, or related field.
  • Two years related experience as a learning support teacher, resource room teacher, or other educator in special education/gifted and talented education.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational/psychoeducational assessment reports. Ability to create student support plans based on assessment results. Ability to communicate information to students, families, teachers and administration.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions when working with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Training or teacher licensure in special education/learning disabilities.
  • Experience with a multi-sensory-based reading program (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar training) and/or math program.
  • Related training and/or experience with attention-deficit and Autism spectrum learning differences.
