National American University is Hiring an University Librarian Near RAPID CITY, SD

Summary

The University Librarian provides library instruction and services to support the instructional programs and the university faculty and staff. The role is part of the academic leadership team working on institution-wide strategic efforts to support library services in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the university.

Minimum Qualifications

The University Librarian must satisfy the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from ALA-accredited library school or international equivalent; and
  2. One year of professional librarian experience or equivalent.
  3. Minimum of one year leading a library, developing resources, and interacting with vendors.

The University Librarian must possess the following skills and attributes: possess strong leadership qualities, excellent customer service skills, possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate (both verbal and written) with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a professional, helpful manner; strong ability to plan, organize, direct, and control; excellent problem-solving skills and conflict resolution skills; ability to exercise independent judgment when handling and processing concerns and complaints; proven training skills.

Essential Functions

The University Librarian performs the following essential functions:

  1. Provides guidance and oversight of library services, student concerns and complaints regarding the library, training/information literacy instructions for faculty, staff, and students.
  2. Provides strategic and innovative leadership, direction, and support to staff regarding library services and initiatives.
  3. Establishes collaborative relationships with university departments and programs; develops and maintains effective collaborative relationships with agencies and institutions at the state, regional, and national levels in regard to library services.
  4. Participates in the development, implementation, and revision of policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines that address the most effective and student-centered delivery of library programs and that support the university’s mission while maintaining regulatory compliance (federal and state guidelines) and accreditation standards.
  5. Participates in developing and implementing library services and initiatives across the system to promote student learning, development, achievement, persistence, and completion.
  6. Promotes a cohesive library workforce who provide friendly professional assistance to all users; promotes innovation and creativity among staff.
  7. Consults with University deans/faculty to determine library resources and service needs of academic programs and departments. Participates actively with college faculty and staff to select appropriate materials to update existing library collections; works with the library staff to develop electronic library collections.
  8. Participates in information literacy instruction and reference service.
  9. Develops short- and long-term plans for the library and related goals and objectives consistent with the college's and library's mission.
  10. Strategically manages expenditures, monitors spending, negotiates with library vendors and makes necessary decisions regarding the Library's operating budget. All decisions, negotiations and/or expenditures are in consultation with the Provost.
  11. Serves as the chief advocate and spokesperson for the library.
  12. Assesses quality and effectiveness of programs and services.
  13. Prepares reports, survey information, and other documents necessary to meet the library's obligation to the external professional world and keeps the Provost informed of library developments.
  14. Serves on University committees as elected or appointed.
  15. Serves on university committees as assigned.
  16. Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Work Hours

A minimum of twenty hours per week up to, but not exceeding 29 hours per week. Scheduled work hours may change.

Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities

  1. The University Librarian reports to the Provost.

Physical Requirements

The University Librarian must be able to speak, hear, see, read, write, type, dial, reach, and bend.

No Travel is required.
