HOME of VA is seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent organizational skills to serve as a full-time Housing Counselor on our Homeownership Team.

The homeownership housing counselor will assist clients seeking to purchase their first home through counseling and education on the home buying process, personal finance, and credit management.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong commitment to HOME’s mission, able to work both independently and as a team member in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. They will be dedicated to expanding housing opportunities and possess excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, an eye for detail, and rigorous time-management skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide comprehensive individual housing counseling to include intake, financial assessment, prepurchase counseling, creation of housing action plans, and case management.
· Help administer HOME’s down payment and closing cost financial assistance programs through eligibility screening, loan processing and coordination of all activities necessary to ensure timely loan closings.
· Facilitate group education classes on topics such as homebuyer education, credit and money management and rental education.
· Build collaborative relationships and do community outreach.
· Maintain complete, accurate, detailed, and confidential records of all counseling and education activities.
· Respond to opportunities to advance HOME’s mission and perform other duties as assigned and prioritized by HOME’s leadership.

· A passion for and familiarity with the nonprofit sector and HOME’s mission.

· Experience in housing counseling, case management, financial literacy, mortgage lending, or related experience with transferable skills.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate group education sessions on housing and financial literacy topics.
· Demonstrated ability to effectively make referrals and connections to other community resources for our clients.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Sharepoint, Teams and client management systems.
· Sincere and demonstrated commitment to civil rights, social justice, and racial equity.
· Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, both independently and as a team member.
· Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend events.
· Ability to exercise sound judgment and diplomacy.
· The ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
· Commitment to treating colleagues, partners, clients, and stakeholders with respect.
Preferred:
· Experience in prepurchase counseling, administering downpayment and closing cost assistance.
· Certified by HUD as a Housing Counselor.
· Excellent oral and written presentation skills (Spanish or other native languages are a plus).

Anticipated hiring salary range: $54,000 - $58,000 (Salary will be commensurate with experience).
