Job Announcement – Motor Equipment Operator Trainee (4)

HOURLY RATE: $20.63 (Grade 1, Step 0)

Employees in this class are considered trainees responsible for the safe and efficient operation of moderately complex motor equipment with direct supervision from a qualified higher-level employee. The incumbent will also be required to do manual work requiring physical endurance and a willingness to perform tasks under direct supervision. Does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (The typical work activities listed below are illustrative only. Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described)

· Assists in snow removal from highways;

· Assists in road and bridge repair and construction;

· Mows and cuts grass and brush, planting and maintaining of plants;

· Cleans ditches and culverts, digs and backfills holes;

· Repairs guard rails;

· Sets up and removes snow fences, pumps and pipelines;

· Assists in the preparation of the work site;

· Operates motor equipment in absence of Motor Equipment Operator;

· Paints signs, bridges, guard rails, motor equipment, etc.;

· Performs minor maintenance of equipment including motor equipment;

· Keeps buildings clean and maintains grounds

· May act as flagperson;

· May drive county vehicles and transport work crews;

· May pick up/deliver supplies to and from work sites.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Ability to lift heavy weights; Ability to follow verbal and written directions; Willingness to perform routine manual work; Willingness to work under all weather conditions; Manual dexterity; Physical endurance; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and possession of a valid New York State CDL or CDL A driver’s license permit.

When employed by Greene County:

Ø TRAINEE APPOINTMENTS: Upon completion of one (1) year full-time or its part-time equivalent appointment as a Motor Equipment Operator Trainee for Greene County and the attainment of a CDL or CDL A driver’s license, the incumbent will advance to the position of Motor Equipment Operator.
