    SAFETY AND SECURITY SPECIALIST
    DISTRICT WIDE
    ABOUT THE POSITION
    The Safety and Security Specialist positon is a district position that reports to the Director of Safety and Security. The major roles of Safety and Security Specialist position are as follows: Supervises armed school security officers, patrols and monitors district property or functions to ensure safety and security of students, visitors and staff and to ensure the security of buildings and property, as well as acts as a consultant on matters related to Colorado CRS for our school administration teams. The Safety and Security Specialist assists the Director of Safety and Security to plan for, deliver or cause to be delivered all training for Zone staff, as well as, oversees all zones within ther schools emergency preparedness drills.
    Calendar: 220 days
    Reports to: Director of Safety and Security
    Starting Pay Range: Professional Technical Range 2. Starting pay is $54,108 per year to $70,344 per year, depending upon previous releveant experience. Actual starting pay rate will be determined after a review of the work experience provided on the job application

    Special Note: This is an armed position. New hire will be expected to qualify for position by passing additional extensive background checks, psychologist exam, and range qualification.

    Position Description
    The Safety and Security Specialist will:
    • Assists the director in the supervision and coordination of all aspects of security operations and functions.
    • Schedules and deploys security personnel assigned to the sections.
    • Responds to calls for service or assistance to school sites as needed.
    • Assists the director in developing operational procedures, emergency plans, and recommendations for implementation of new methods and procedures.
    • Development and/or delivery of training programs for personnel assigned to district staff, zone and building staff including, but not limited to school and criminal law and procedure, emergency response protocols and management. Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention,
    • Coordinates special operations as assigned by the director of safety and security.
    • Assists in evaluating the performance of assigned personnel.
    • Patrols district properties and buildings.
    • Compiles, reviews for accuracy and maintains necessary reports, logs and records of the department.
    • Conducts or assists with investigations as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security, chief officers or building and zone administration.
    • Works effectively with school district administrators and local public safety representatives.
    • Conducts regular inspections of the personnel and equipment assigned to the department and schools.
    • Attends training as assigned by the director or necessary for personal and professional development.
    • Attends after school events as assigned.
    • Attends Board of Education meetings as requested.
    • Serves on on-call rotation for after hours alarm calls and safe 2 tell reports.
    • Acts as Incident Commander as needed.
    • Provides student supervision at after school functions and athletic events as assigned.
    • Becomes familiar with Board Policies and enforces Student Code of Conduct and other school rules and regulations.
    • Patrols District owned property to detect and/or interdict vandalism, theft, burglary and other criminal activity.
    • Attends regular Board of Education meetings as requested.
    • Performs other duties and accepts additional assignments and responsibilities as requested.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
    Education & Training:
    • High school diploma or equivalent and or post secondary education in criminal justice is preferred.
    • Completion of Post Officer Standards Training (POST) academy, post-certification training, or similar police or military training as solely approved by district 49 is required.
    Experience:
    • Experience in physical security, military service, law enforcement or a related field, sufficient to meet the minimum requirements for state and local licensing and/or site standards as established by the district.
    • Experience working with children in grades K-12 is preferred.
    Special Requirements:
    • This is an armed position. Employee must have ability to complete a firearms training course and maintain an annual standard qualification as outlined in policy and procedure.
    • Must be available during off duty time for call-back due to emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances and perform essential duties.
    • Candidate must qualify for position by passing additional extensive background checks, psychological evaluation, and range qualification.
    • Driver license and clean MVR.
    • May be required to be available to work shift work, including evening hours, weekends and holidays.
    • Must pass pre-employment and random drug screening.
    Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
    • Ability to utilize timely and effective judgment in responding to unusual or emergency situations
    • Ability to defuse stressful or emotionally escalated situations
    • Ability to effectively manage conflict, both verbal and physical
    • Constant and dedicated situational awareness
    • Strong customer service skills
    • Strong oral and written communications skills in order to communicate with students, staff and the community
    • Knowledge of law enforcement and security patrol operations and functions preferred
    • Must know how to operate a computer, access the internet, and use web based programs
    • Knowledge of or ability to gain working knowledge of district policies, existing department procedures and existing local, state and federal laws and ordinances pertaining to unlawful activities occurring on or near district properties
    • Knowledge of surveillance systems and alarm monitoring equipment
    • Ability to effectively use radio communications
    • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
    • Ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision
    Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:
    • Criminal background check required for hire.
    • Additional background check, including psychological evaluation
    • Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing and permit requirements for conealed carry and weapons qualifications
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
    • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR, AED, and first aid certifications (Provided by district)
    OTHER WORK FACTORS
    The physical demands, work environment factors and mental functions described herein are representative of those that employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    Physical Demands: The work is a combination of vehicle operation and walking in and around school properties. Typical positions require workers to exert a push/pull force in excess of 100 pounds infrequently, up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 10 pounds on a frequent basis; climb stairs and ladders; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects. At times, workers may have to restrain students physically. The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.
    Work Environment: Work is performed in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition, the use of protective gear and devices, and awareness of personal safety and safety of others. Position requires driving a district-owned vehicle.
    Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, coordinate, instruct, observe, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and compile. Frequently required to synthesize. Occasionally required to compare, analyze, copy.
