CHURCH CHOIR DIRECTOR
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Choir Director ensures that appropriate music is provided during worship service and special events for choir and/or bell choir performances.
This is a part-time, ten hour per week, non-exempt hourly position which reports to the Pastor as Head of Staff. The Choir Director works closely with the Director of Worship and staff.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
· Christian beliefs and personal character consistent with the values of the church.
· Knowledge of appropriate Christian music available for use during weekly services.
· Strong interpersonal skills needed to interact with a variety of people and personalities including staff, church members, team leaders, choir members, and musicians.
· Appropriate experience in conducting a vocal choir and bell choir.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Experience performing in front of an audience.
CURRENT AREAS OF EMPHASIS FOR THIS POSITION:
· Recruiting members for the choir and bell choir.
· Working closely with Worship Keyboardist during rehearsals and Sunday service.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job responsibilities in addition to participation in the goals of the church as a staff member include but are not limited to the following:
1. Provide choir music during regular and special services.
2. Consult with the Pastor, Director of Worship, and Worship Planning Committee regarding themes of sermons, special programs, and special music.
3. Direct the sanctuary choir and bell choir - supervise and provide training as needed.
4. Arrange for suitable substitutes when not able to be present.
5. Work directly with the Worship Keyboardist, keeping him/her informed of the choir schedule.
6. Collaborate with Director of Worship during the budget process to submit an estimate of needed music supplies and equipment.
7. Perform other duties related to the music program as assigned or directed.
8. Hold practices for the choirs.
9. Attend weekly church staff meetings.
10. Other duties as assigned by Head of Staff.
EVALUATION:
Performance reviews will be conducted after the first 90 days and annually thereafter by the Pastor and reviewed by the HR Team. On at least an annual basis, the HR Team will review the adequacy of compensation and the terms of employment.
