Finney County is Hiring a Road Maintenance Supervisor Near Garden, KS

Summary

This position is responsible for the overall supervision of all Equipment Operators in the Road and Bridge Division. This position will oversee all functions of the division and ensure project completion. The position is under the general supervision of the Road and Bridge Division Coordinator and/or his/her designee.

Definition and Examples of Work

Direct, coordinate, and supervise all work projects and personnel

  • Supervise employees; duties include planning, assigning of work, establishment of priorities, training/coaching, making hiring and termination decisions, delivering disciplinary action or performance evaluations, reviewing work, responding to complaints/grievances, maintaining personnel records, recommending pay adjustments. and making promotional decisions. This position may also develop training programs and will ensure that all training is compliant with all applicable regulations and policies.
  • Coordinate, allocate, oversee and supervise all in-house projects and allocate resources (personnel, equipment and materials) to achieve maximum efficiency and to effectively and safely accomplish in-house road projects; in-house road projects include but are not limited to paving, chip sealing, grading, major road maintenance, bridge repair and dust control.
  • Oversees all pit operations including screening, mixing and blending of sand and aggregates to produce various road bases. Blends and produces aggregate and oil to produce cold mix asphalt.
  • Receives and disseminates road complaints and maintenance requests to the appropriate supervisor. Assists in responding to road complaints.
  • Oversees the daily operations of equipment/vehicle maintenance for the Division.
  • Complete road inspections and coordinate daily work projects; monitor the performance of crews to ensure performance and safety.
  • Assist on all projects including material processing projects, snow removal procedures, and projects with internal departments.
  • Assist in planning job material and labor requirements and schedule projects on a priority basis.
  • Assess equipment needs and conditions to recommend repair and replacement schedules.
  • Perform all Equipment Operator (I, II, & III) duties as required; may train while completing duties.

Oversee and assist with additional operational duties

  • Ensures proper maintenance of all department equipment, and vehicles.
  • Attend continued training needed to perform the functions of the job.
  • Ensure and maintain all safety policies and procedures to ensure safe work environment,
  • Manage the receiving and investigation of public inquiries about department operations and follows up to ensure adequate resolution

Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.

  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or related software.
  • Proficient in the operation of light and heavy-duty vehicles, heavy equipment, and construction machinery.
  • Ability to complete mathematical computations for grade and slope.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and uses own judgment in determining priorities and procedures used, obtaining assistance in new or unusual situations.
  • Knowledge of road materials processing and road construction and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CDL Class A License with endorsements.
  • Ability to obtain First aid and CPR certificates
  • Ability to obtain Defensive driving certification
  • Kansas Flagger Certification.
  • Occasional overtime

  • Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location
