Job SummaryThe Press Assistant assists DAGA's Communications Team with a variety of tasks, including distributing communications materials to press and external parties, creating and editing media lists, and drafting and editing communications materials. Alongside the Deputy Communications Director, the Press Assistant supports the team in lifting the individual and collective work of the sitting Democratic Attorneys General and supporting the political communications for attorney general races during election cycles. The Press Assistant oversees our weekly newsletter and gives logistical support for communications strategies like press events and media outreach.
This is an entry level position with an opportunity for advancement.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press materials, including statements, briefing memos, talking points, advisories, and social media posts
  • Create and edit media lists for DAGA, incumbents, and campaigns
  • Lead the daily press clips process
  • Maintain and update DAGA website
  • Help with DAGA's rapid response communications
  • Help brainstorm press opportunities, including researching local and national reporters
  • On an as-needed basis, participate in weekly cross-departmental planning meetings and join weekly or monthly campaign strategy and planning meetings with campaign teams
  • Help supervise the Communications Intern
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Internship or 1 year of experience working in communications or political field
  • A working knowledge of public policy, federal and state government, and the judicial system
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good judgment on sensitive political and communications matters
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Commitment to DAGA's mission.
Compensation Package
  • $50,000 - 55,000 salary
  • 100% Employer paid national health, dental, and vision insurance.

Closing
  •  DAGA's office offers a hybrid work schedule with operating hours between 9 AM - 6 PM Eastern, but extended and nontraditional work hours are required.
  • This position is located in the DAGA offices which are in downtown Washington DC.
