Downtown San Diego Partnership is Hiring a Safety Ambassador - O-Lot Safe Sleeping Near San Diego, CA

Position Title: Safety Ambassador

Reports to: Program Manager for Shelter Operations

FLSA: Full-time (40 hours/week), Non-exempt (hourly) plus benefits

Salary: $24.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Sunday (Set Schedules have the same 2 days off every week)

Shifts Available: Day: 6:30 AM - 2:00 PM; Swing: 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM; Graveyard: 10:30 PM- 7:00 AM

Location: Safe Sleeping Shelter (Balboa Park - O Lot)

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Shelter Program Manager and Shelter Program Director, the Safety Ambassador will act as a “Liaison” for safety needs, becoming the eyes and ears for the property and residents. Safety Ambassadors will actively patrol site on foot, and responding to service requests from site staff. Safety Ambassadors will work directly with emergency response personnel, service providers, and local law enforcement on a daily basis. Safety Ambassadors will also actively engage the community in a positive and productive manner, providing top quality customer service to all visitors and members of the community.

Essential Job Function & Duties

  • Provide customer service assistance to residents, staff, guests and other patrons navigating the site
  • Actively patrol site regularly, establishing order and presence throughout the community
  • Check in daily with residents and staff
  • Compose, maintain, and present detailed reports of incidents and accidents, notating damages, theft, or any other irregular activity
  • Investigate and report suspicious activities related to violations of community standards
  • Create “BOLO’s” reports (be on the lookout) based on the need of each property
  • Assist operations coordinators with securing areas for maintenance duties during special projects.
  • Act as an escort for employees, residents, and visitors in need
  • Clean, maintain and operate issued equipment, including phones and radios
  • Compile daily statistics using work logs, recording service request
  • Complete quarterly training and field training under the direction of the Program Manager.
  • Perform quality assurance duties as directed
  • Real time reporting and submittal of incident reports, employee accidents, vehicle accidents and emergency responses.
  • Provide coordinated outreach services with Outreach team and refer 211 informational packets to those in need.
  • Report any trip hazards, day burners, lights out, unattended property or other City of San Diego correspondence via proper channels.

Administrative Tasks

  • Adhere to all local, state, federal guidelines, and laws. (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, FLSA, traffic laws)
  • Adhere to all of the DSDP policies and procedures
  • Answer all calls and radios communication, in a polite and professional manner
  • Use company telephone for data collection and timecard features (Paylocity)

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years’ experience in Security field, Guard Card certified
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Valid CA Guard Card; current CPR/First Aid certification required
  • Demonstrated experience or understanding of homeless community and issues
  • Ability to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, in person and electronically (radio/ phone)
  • Hospitality experience a plus
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English. Bilingual or Multilingual a plus
  • Knowledge of legal guidelines for area security and public safety
